All of the following were shot during a backpacking trip through Les Monts du Cantal, Auvergne, France, on Fuji Velvia RVP50 through a Leica Summicron M 28/2.

I've habitually used a ZM C Biogon 21/4.5 for landscape (in combe with other lenses) but this time I put the C Biogon on the M8 and used the Summicron M 28 for RVP50. The Summicron has unpredictable vignetting wide open that I do not like for landscapes, so I try to avoid using it wide open, but with an ASA50 film, the extra stops can mean all the difference at sunrise and sunset. The 28 cron has moderate contrast that is more pleasing in a wider variety of lighting on RVP50 than the ZM C Biogon. For the alpine topography in Taiwan, the 21 FOV is much better, but in a place like Auvergne, 28 is about as wide I would like to go, and indeed most of the time I felt it was too wide.
I'd been hiking in Auvergne in summer before, but was totally unprepared for and blown away by the range of colors one sees there in spring, just at the end of snowmelt.
