Himatic 7 Adjustment

Hello,
I wish to calibrate my himatic 7 rangefinder.I am aware of the adjustment screws under the hot shoe.I am not certain at what point I measure the distance to subject,is it from the camera body,or tip of the lens barrell.Is it best to calibrate to infinity and a shorter distance as well,and what shorter distance is best.Thank you.

Calibrate at infinity by using a ground glass (or scotch tape) on the film plane. Then check near focus on the film plane. I think the distance indicated is to the centre off the lens (middle between front and rear lens element).

Wouldn't any distance less-than-infinity be to the film plane? Afterall, that is where the image is formed. Many, if not most, cameras have a scribe on the top plate indicating film plane location. It is usually a circle with a line through it:

Calibrating the Hi-Matic 7 is easy. Set focus to infinity and with the view/rf pointed at a subject 50+ ft. distant. Adjust the screw till the 2 images come together. Next set the camera 5 ft from a subject (measure from subject to the back of the flash shoe). Carefully focus and check the distance scale to see if it is lined up with the 5 ft mark.
I have a piece of ground glass which can be taped at the film plane inside the camera to check proper focus but if you don't have that use some semi-transparent tape as a ground glass to view focus at the film plane.
After adjusting the screw put a drop of clear nail polish on it to prevent it from working loose.
