Besides Cameraleather, there is a Japanese guy/girl? (Aki-Asahi) selling camera covers at ebay. Last month I ordered two lizard covers for my Kievs, which I intended to use to aesthetically upgrade my actual 4AM and another 4AM still in transit.
The stuff not only arrived ultra fast, but Aki sent me three covers instead of two.
I left them waiting as at first glance they appeared to me as too thin and un-appealing.
Wrong!!!
Today I sticked one to my Kiev 2a, as its original cover was quite deteriorated. Unsticking the original leather comfirmed my assumption the Kiev cover is too thin. So thin that I wonder how the Soviets managed to produce such thin cover, like today's Prague supermarket plastic bags. More a wonder of how they manage to do it so bad, so thin, instead of trying to do it good, much an easier task by common sense.
But Aki's lizard is twice or three times thicker, and the final look of the camera improves a lot. A real vintage new camera ! What a plesure.
Now, if you remember, I manufacture my own leather cases for my cameras (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17589) which not only are true-leather, glove fitting type, noise reducing, tactile pleasuring, but also eliminate the need for camera cover, as they are both kinda camera cover and case. So why did I buy camera covers ?
You are right, no reason. But a kind of underwear clean obssesion. Something like 'it is not the look but what is inside', by a wowser who cares for the look as well !
Ok, I am talking nosense again. So I go back to finnish my Kiev zero-in. Sorry for your time.
Cheers,
Ruben
