Ho Lizard, beautiful lizard

Besides Cameraleather, there is a Japanese guy/girl? (Aki-Asahi) selling camera covers at ebay. Last month I ordered two lizard covers for my Kievs, which I intended to use to aesthetically upgrade my actual 4AM and another 4AM still in transit.

The stuff not only arrived ultra fast, but Aki sent me three covers instead of two.
I left them waiting as at first glance they appeared to me as too thin and un-appealing.

Wrong!!!
Today I sticked one to my Kiev 2a, as its original cover was quite deteriorated. Unsticking the original leather comfirmed my assumption the Kiev cover is too thin. So thin that I wonder how the Soviets managed to produce such thin cover, like today's Prague supermarket plastic bags. More a wonder of how they manage to do it so bad, so thin, instead of trying to do it good, much an easier task by common sense.

But Aki's lizard is twice or three times thicker, and the final look of the camera improves a lot. A real vintage new camera ! What a plesure.

Now, if you remember, I manufacture my own leather cases for my cameras (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17589) which not only are true-leather, glove fitting type, noise reducing, tactile pleasuring, but also eliminate the need for camera cover, as they are both kinda camera cover and case. So why did I buy camera covers ?

You are right, no reason. But a kind of underwear clean obssesion. Something like 'it is not the look but what is inside', by a wowser who cares for the look as well !

Ok, I am talking nosense again. So I go back to finnish my Kiev zero-in. Sorry for your time.
Cheers,
Ruben

Aki has great covers and service. Why don't you post a picture of your camera with the new cover?

I may, but not today as it requires a full setup, depicting all my four different Kievs, in black, not exactly as they are sold these days, but even with better taste.

It is very interesting concerning Contax designers: blackened Kievs get quite a different look from the traditional exhuberant chrome, yet of equal aesthetical strenght, at least in my viewpoint.

Ruben

PS: what is that Leica mini-avatar many are getting for free ? Can I have a Contax one? perhaps a Kiev one? ????
!!!!

I went to the Goodwill store (store that sells donated items that would otherwise be thrown away) and bought a pair of ladies' leather boots for $3 USD. Cut them up and recovered a 6x6 MF Japanese Folder (brand name "Frank" an obvious copy of a "Franka"). It was fun!

The camera smells kinda like a foot now, though.

As a hungry leather for cameras beast, I am in the same booat (intentional language error).
