Hold crap indeed. I don't get excited over digicams myself, but that looks like a real doozy of a camera. And not really that much $$$, either. Return fire in response to the D3?

Return fire but in response to the D700, my guess ... Canon has to keep up in the DSLR megapixel race after Nikon released the D3 and D700 ... If this new 5D works well with Leica-R glass... 😎

That 28mm on the G10 sounds quite exciting, and, as Avotius said, interesting viewfinder. Not quite sure about that double-stacked dial though.
The 5DmkII looks interesting, and very fairly priced... Still out of my budget, but nonethless well priced.

Yep, there is a monster on the loose. It will be interesting to see to see the dynamic range of that many pixels on a FF sensor. If it works as advertised in low light, then Canon's engineers are brilliant. Each pixel site is supposed to be 6.4µm square.
With the regards to the G10 - Does it still use a smaller than APS-C size sensor?
The double stacked dial doesn't bother me. I like being able to see the ASA setting by dial and like-wise the exposure comp at the other end of the top deck.

I'd been hoping the G10 would have a larger sensor. Let's face it, if Canon had dropped in the same APS-C sensor they use in their multi-digit EOS cameras, it would have been a brilliant 'take anywhere' camera. As it stands it's still got a small sensor, so we'll have to wait for samples to see what Canon's boffins have managed to squeeze out of it.
Oh, and putting the ISO and exposure compensation settings on dials? Brilliant. I hate having to traipse through menus for that!

Disappointing again, as is the Pana LX3, great concept, UI and design, unfortunately build around another small sensor. The wait and search for the "perfect" pocketable will continue. Who is going to get it right first? Sigma DP1 IQ combined with the versatility, form factor and UI of a G10, LX 3 or Ricoh GX, is what I'd be happy to pay a premium for.

The G10 looks a little more like a mini-SLR than the mini-rangefinder its predecessors kind of used to...
And the Panasonic LX3 has it beat in maximum aperture and minimum focal length. And who the hell needs 15MP from a small sensor? That's ludicrous!
I was kinda hoping the G10 might be a DP1 killer.

Looks like Canon has probably exceeded expectations for the 5D MkII. I still think that I prefer the design philosophy of the Nikons (lower MP, high quality). I wonder if the D700 price will adjust now?
The saving grace on the 5D Mk2 is the SRAW modes (5mp and 10mp). I always shoot RAW, but I need 21mp RAW files like I need a hole in my head. 21mp files may be useful in very rare occasions, but for the most part, 10mp will be more than fine. I hope that cramming all those pixels on the sensor doesn't degrade image quality. It would be interesting to see if images from the 5D Mk1 (12mp) are actually cleaner.

I'm hoping (I don't know why because I won't be buying one any tome soon!) that the new sensor design does allow for high ISO performance to match or exceed Nikon with the added benefit of higher resolution for those who need it. I don't need it either but I know some people who do.

Looks like the LX3 still wins out over the G10 - f/2.0, lowish noise, smaller. I wonder what else will pop up between now and Photokina.

I find it strangely liberating that I do not feel the slightest anxiety about this latest round of the upgrade wars. My D200 does all I want ... really. In fact I wish it did not do some of the unnecessary stuff and were a slightly smaller camera in return.
