Home brew soft release for Leica screw mount cameras

Thought I would try to correct a problem I had using my IIf in that it really needed a raised shutter release button. The quick solution of using a Nikon soft release for the F failed because it did not fit. Here is the Mickey Mouse solution that appears to work

This only would work on older cameras NOT ones with the now normal threading of the cable release into the centre of the shutter release.

I would be careful that the screw you use doesn't strip the treads inside the trigger release. You would need to buy a screw who's threads match the threads in the release. You can use the end of a cable release as a comparison for whatever screw you buy.

Nikon Bob, any clues or info about the size of the screw? I went to Lowe's in search of that kind of material for my Leica M bodies...

I do not know if this will work on the M series as I do not know if they have the old style Leica bell system of the screw mounts. If they have the new style where you screw the cable release directly into the centre of the shutter release then your best bet is a soft release from Cameraquest. The rig I made was for my Leica IIf which is different from the M series I believe.
