Will my soon to arrive hexar af be a good camera to take to hawaii on my honeymoon?

I'm off on my second honeymoon in November. 25th anniversary and we wre off to Vegas, LA and San Fran. I'm already trying to decide what to take. I'm tending towards just taking my Hexar Silver with a compact as the lighter option.
The Hexars are excellent and fast to use if you can mange with a fixed 35. Took mine on holiday earlier this year and never found the need for anything longer/wider.

If you are okay with just a 35mm lens, like if a 35 is your favourite everyday lens (for me it's a 50) then the Hexar AF is perfect for a honeymoon trip where photography is not not the primary goal. On a honeymoon trip you should be focusing on enjoying each other's company and sharing experiences together. Unless the new wife is also an avid photographer, it would seem to be a little selfish to take a full photo gear kit on such a trip. The Hexar is great because it is such a no-fuss and quick camera to use, yet it gives results quite comparible to a Leica m/35mm body/lens combo.

Honeymoon camera? A P&S with a tripod mount, flash, and a self timer. 😉 😛 Seriously, if it's just the two of you (which is the point of honeymoons, I believe), you may want to add a camera that you feel comfortable with handing to a stranger (the one who'll take those occasional snaps of you and the wife in front of some memorable landmark), but otherwise I'd also want something with a range of lenses: long, normal, and wide (especially for Hawaii, where you'll want to do some sight-seeing and exploring [the island, that is]). 😀

I made so much more use of my G1 (21 / 35 only real lenses used) than my E-1 DSLR (14-54 used, forgot 11-22).

Digital is the answer to deal with those "personal" shots, if you don't do your own film developing and printing. 😉
The camera you take should be familiar and trusted. Hopefully you'll have time after getting a new camera to become familiar with it and trust it! I would avoid relying on a new/unfamiliar rig. Aside from this issue, it seems to me the Hexar AF would be a great casual choice... But if photography is a more important ingredient in the trip then perhaps choose something with interchangeable lenses.

thanks everyone for your words of wisdom. i think it'll just have to be the hexar for the reasons you've already mentioned- the p&S should make it easier for strangers to help us take photos, its got a good lens and she's my main focus 🙂

just run a roll through it to make sure it works ok. That being said, it's a very versatile camera that has enough manual functions to satisfy the photography obsessed, but also enough automation to be used as a point and shoot. I've used the HexarAF as a single camera on a number of holidays with my wife, and it has done a splendid job..atelier7 said:
