Hi everyone,
For some time now I have been looking for a lens hood for my Elmar 2.8/50 lens on my Leica M2. Does anyone know which is the right hood for this lens?
I have also found an M2 + Elmar 50 offered on German eBay that comes with a hood, maybe someone can identify it from the article description. I have contacted the seller but received no reply... Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3857021246&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
Thanks in advance for your help,
Arthur

Hi Bob,
Thanks a lot! That's a lot of money for a round piece of metal, though... Maybe I can find one in less than mint condition a little cheaper.

Steve Gandy has an alternative listed on his Cameraquest site.

I use the B+W rubber hood. Works perfectly. Collapses for easy storage.

Arthur,
While the IROOA/ 12571 will work on the 50/2.8 Elmar, you really don't want one. The chrome band on the IROOA hood extends too far back and makes moving the aperture ring a real pain (unless you have something smaller than baby fingers), and it also covers the small alignment dot that identifies which aperture is selected. There was a very short chrome banded model similar to the IROOA for the 50/2.8 Elmar but they're difficult to find and usually more pricey than a standard IROOA. Get a collapsible rubber hood such as the B&W Mike suggested and save yourself money and grief.

Thanks a lot everyone for your replies. Thanks especially to you, StreetShooter, for the offer, but I live in Europe and I think the shipping cost would be quite high...
I think I'll go with a rubber hood for now, it would have been nice to have an original hood but I wasn't aware they were that hard to find and expensive. After all, I'm not a collector but actually want to use the camera...
So I think a rubber hood will do.
Thanks again, everyone, and sorry for not replying sooner!
