The Olympus 14-42 kit lens for the EP series has a 40.5mm filter thread. I have a couple of lens hoods in that size, but they are basically made for 50mm on full frame and vignette at the wider settings on my 14-42. A hood is not listed among the accessories for the EP series, as far as I can tell. Has anyone found a hood that will work, or are you just not bothering with a hood?

I dont bother since it is too much trouble with the filter rings on the front that retract a hair more then fully into the body meaning if you have a hood on that is wider than the rings around the screw in place area then the lens makes a bunch of unpleasant noise and I can see where it would damage the lens over time. It is not a particularly well made lens, dont bother with the hood. If you are adamant, buy really cheap fake UV filters and punch out the glass, add until you find the right mix of filter rings and coverage however considering how plastic the lens is, and because I have had this happen on a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens before, the added weight of the hood or filters will probably wear down the plastic bits of the focus mechanism and make problems for the lens later on.

I got mine on eBay from HeavyStar, and it's what he calls a 'Wide' metal hood in 40.5mm. No problems with it at all.

may have to check that out - I was pretty much resigned to the step up ring solution as well

UPDATE: Purchased the "wide" hood, works great unless you have a filter, then you get vignetting to about 17mm. Not a big deal.
