Hood for Zeiss Biogon 21mm f4.5?

Does any one know if there is an original hood made for this lens? Or if there is a suitable hood that can be adapted to this lens?

No such thing. I asked the same question a few years ago on the Zeiss Ikon Collectors Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ZICG/) & was informed that Zeiss apparently believed that no hood was necessary as the front element was already sufficiently recessed (same goes for the 35/2.8 Biogon). After having used both the 21mm & 35mm Biogons (the 35 both naked & w/a short 43mm wide angle hood for the CV 35/2.5 + a 40.5-43mm step-up ring), I have to admit the Zeiss engineers were probably correct.

Wayne, I own this lens and there is a specific hood made for it.
One has to use a proprietary Zeiss hood as it bayonets onto the lens, around the filter. I guess you could find a suitable 46mm screw in hood somewhere. The front element is definitely not recessed. It is quite bulbulous, but does not protrude beyond the edge of the innermost filter threads.

Wayne, if you are talking about the C Biogon 21/4.5, then obviously there are various hoods you can use, but IMHO the best solution is the 25/28mm round ZM hood, which does not vignette even when you shoot wide open, and blocks less of the VF space.

If there is one for the original, I've never seen it (and I've had two of the original lenses), but there is of course one for the current model.

I have had 21/4,5's since the 60's and I have never seen a hood for it! I heard rumours that there was one, but I could never unearth one. My current 21/4,5 is used hood less, but I have seen other users adapt filter rings to it. In Tokyo, last March. I picked up a shallow hood with "vented" flange. It kind of works, but it makes it difficult to see the aperture numbers (a challenge at the best of time with the early Biogon 21). On the other hand, I have rarely had any flare problem with that lens. Even compared to the latest offerings from Leica/VC and Zeiss, it is still a formidable performer. Only one that I find is better is the new 21/4,5 ZM version. Marginally less distorsion (though you be hard pressed to see it in either the old or new one) and considerably better ergonomics! You can actually see the f-stops and focussing distance!
