Hoods and filters for Canon 35mm f3.5

I have a lovely 35mm f3.5 Serenar that I picked up for cheap.
I checked to see which filters would for. There 40mm was way too big of course.
So I pulled a filter off my 100mm f3.5 which looked like the right size.
But it just wouldn't thread on. When I looked at the lens again, I realized there were no threads on the lens at all!

So... What do I do for filters? And is there a clamp on hood that will fit?

I have this lens too. But it is tucked away somewhere and I would need to dig it up to check dimensions to be sure of the external lens front ring size. But if my memory is correct, one hood that fits it is the FOOKH (yes I know it sounds rude) - designed and built by Leica for the Summaron and Elmar LTM 35mm f3.5 lenses. This hood is a clamp fit type - it was very common in this era for lenses to take either slip fit or clamp fit hoods and filters not the screw in ones. I believe the Canon one you mention has the same external diameter as the Summaron and so most likely can take the same accessories. If I can locate it I will confirm the above.

At the moment my FOOKH is happily resident on a Leica 35mm f3.5 Summaron.

As to filters, Leica also made a wide range of clamp fit filters for this type of lens. If my recollection about the Leica hood fitting is correct then certainly the filters will too - most of these though are for black and white tonal correction and I surmise it is those filters you want to use (available commonly in yellow, orange, red, deep red, dark green and light green).

If you check eBay and search "slip fit lens hood" or "clamp fit lens hood" you will find quite a few options once you confirm which diameter you need. According to a post in the above thread the diameter of the Canon/Serenar 35mm f3.5 is, as I thought, 36mm. Which is the same as my Leica 35mm f3.5 Summaron. So my hood /filter suggestion would work it seems.

Yes, A36 filters and hoods. The Nikkor 35/3.5 'Tokyo' that I have also has no threads and accepts these. The later Nikkor 'Japan' version also accepts A36 as well as 34.5mm filters but those are very uncommon.

You can get the appropriate Canon adapter to clamp on the front and then use this vented factory hood:

They are quite thin-walled, so would dent rather easily if knocked into anything.

Ok thank you for the ideas. I will keep my eye out. I think I may have a kodak series vi hood with a36mm adapter in my boxes of stuff.

Just a long awaited follow up.
I finally found a Canon 36mm clamp on adapter. It was attached to a round and fairly long hood labeled for the 50mm f2.8.
The clamp on adapter also fits the 100mm f3.5 lens, as does the hood.
The long hood will vignette with the 35mm of course. So I took an S-42 hood that was attached to a42mm ring, and moved it to the 36mm ring. It fits perfectly, and the S-42 hood does not vignette at all. I believe the S-42 is the same hood as the one labeled for the 50mm f1.8 / 35mm f2.8.

Hmm.. now I need a 50mm f2.8!
