While we are waiting for Photokina hoping to see the official announcement from Fuji about their new retro design folder camera. I would like to put out a poll about the desired focal length equal to 35mm.

A normal lens for a 6x7 is about 90mm when defined as sqrt(sqr(width) + sqr(height)).
When I use larger formats, I am used to the wide of view of the normal lens. So I'm hoping it is a 90mm which would be 38mm in 135 format which is close enough to 35mm.
However for people shots outdoors with a 35mm camera, I prefer a lens that is a little longer, ie. a 50mm lens. This preference doesn't apply so much when I use larger formats since I have much more resolution to work with when cropping.

I'm pretty sure that the one at Photokina had a 90mm or 85mm lens, which would be around 35mm equivalant. I'm happy with that, although I wouldn't mind it if the lens were a bit longer. 6x7 suits me fine.

80 mm it was. Measured on the diagonal of 56x70 mm it is like 39 mm on a 24x36 mm frame.
In my opinion it should have a 56 x 82 mm frame size, the maximum that can be scanned on a Nikon LS 8000 and it should have an 80 or 75 mm wide angle lens. Then it actually is close to the 35 mm on 35 mm and close to the 2/3 ratio of 35 mm. The lens can still be small enough for a folder and get some WA appeal. A landscape camera in the first place.

My Baldafix has a metal plate that you place in the film chamber, and the camera shoots 6x4.5, without the plate it's 6x9. Something similar to that would be nice (having 2 formats that is).

Fuji wouldn't mind to add that if the film transport is kept at 7 or 8 cm. They are in it to sell film.

As had been discussed on rff before, several old folders did that, usually reducing 6x9 to 6x6, or 6x6 to 645. The Mamiya Press cameras had a 6x9 back that could be changed to either 6x6 or 645. It required masks not only for the film holder, but in the viewfinder as well (and for different lens focal length). The backs show up on ebay all the time. The masks are harder to come by.

If it were to be 6x6, that would be great. If no meter is available, no sweat. If it will be made at all and for under $1500, well that would be stupendous. 😀

6x6 with a wide lens (50 or 40) would be ideal for me. I suspect I'm alone in that.

Hasn't it already been announced that the camera is a 6x7 with a widish normal lens? (40mm equiv. in 135 format)

The prototype shown was an 80mm f3.5, so yes...widish (and about right for me).

Hate to burst any bubbles but I heard this is a novelty camera - a run of the mill digital P&S that only looks like a folder.

I had the distinct impression that it was a prototype of a possible film camera.
Steve, I think Nick is joshing us that the camera will only appear to be a retro-cool folder and have just another digicam inside. 😀 I.E., too good to be true?
