Horrible results from V370 help?

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the settings I use or the scanner itself because the results I get with Epson Scan software are very inconsistent.

Scans are just too soft almost cloudy, incredibly dull & the colours just look so wrong! Heavy yellow cast, sometimes blue, other times green. And sometimes I get blue pictures! They're not even near decent. I tried home mode, professional mode though that doesn't matter because I don't change the settings at all. Everything is at default. No color restoration or dust removal.

I can't seem to figure out why 😕 Any Epson V370 (or other Epson Perfection scanners) users facing the same problem?

Looks like Ranchu's settings are the go.

I had trouble with Vuescan (completely different software) because it has a one-click white balance that I kept accidentally triggering before I knew it existed. It had the same kind of results you describe.

Hopefully Ranchu's time-tested recipe does the trick.

I have always had to tweak stuff in Photoshop when using my Epson V330. Here is a quick side by side. On the left is with auto-tone and auto-contrast using photoshop and on the right is straight out of the scanner with everything set to "off". I have done a post scan sharpening after resizing to 900 pixels on the long side. The sharpening was set to 100%, Radius of 1.1 and threshold of 1.

Now that I upgraded to the Epson V750, I find that the colors are coming out correct - or mostly so - right out of the scanner.

Conclusions - I am happy with the purchase of the V750. It was a lot of money, but the jump in quality and the fact that I can scan 4x5 now makes it worth it to me.

It looks like what happens when you don't have these set this way in configuration..

Color:

Color Control = Checked

Continuous Auto Exposure = Checked

I think it then just gives you straight scans without removing the orange (cyan) mask, or using the scanner profile to convert to srgb. Another thing is to use 48-bit mode, even if outputting jpegs. That won't matter for colors, but in general.
