Fujifilm: Showing Leica Digital how to do things in the 21st Century

Not as obviously a smash hit as the X100(s) and X-Pro 1, but certainly a strong step in a positive direction (more cash for Fuji to make interesting things, also to develop the mount ecosystem). Also nice to see them making the "less-expensive version" a viable option to people who are interested without sacrificing too much in the way of capabilities.

Mode dial is a bit of a "meh" but I guess it's probably more market-appropriate (anyone who would spring for that as opposed to an XE-1 or X-Pro 1)

I agree... I just hope it isn't a sign of things to come. Fuji has got to know that the X-Pro1 and X100(s) have sold well due to having dedicated knobs and dials.

Between the mode dial and the lack of aperture ring on the lens, I think it is clear that RFFers are not the target audience. I am with jsrockit in hoping this does not mean Fuji is moving away from the external controls, which I think is the ethos of the X-series.

It kit lenses are targeted purely at the entry level user. Only time will tell how good the lenses will be and how well recvd the xm1 will be. They needed to design these lenses to a lower cost target.. Having more plastic in construction is not always a bad thing btw. A lot depends on where it is used.

Someone stacked up all the fuji bodies to compare the size: http://imgur.com/nAZdVyh

This new X-M1 is tiiiinyyy. Much closer to NEX-3/Pen Mini/Pana Gf than to Nex-5/Pen/Pana GX.

Too small for me but nice to see more options.
The more bodies Fuji sells the more R+D they can justify putting into developing lenses.
Actually this body would go quite nicely with the 18 or this 27. Still would rather sling a x100/s. Love the fixed lens!

I have the same feeling. X-E1 is borderline being too small but this new baby is definitely pushing it too far. I can't imagine holding it comfortably (and shooting without a viewfinder.)

Wonder if ladies will like it.

I think the new body is kind of cool. Maybe I'll pick one up for waist level shooting. If they have a kit with the pancake, I might bite.

It is smaller than I thought it would be. If it has the same type of LCD as on the grd or rx100, u should have no real problems in bright sunlight.

No stabilization in the body though would be my guess.. The pancake may be pushing it a bit w/o the stabilization if u are shooting w/ LCD only as I think about it. W/ high enough shutter speed should e fine though.

if it is like an rx100 but with the ability to change lenses then it might be of interest to me...just swap the rx100 for it and be able to use the pancake plus my other lenses.

It's actually more like X20:

Looks like the same body but with different filling.

The price point and design/features to me make it appear to be a direct competitor with the Sony and Nikon offerings at the $500-600 price point.

Good for them offering something for the lower budget minded folks.

Well, that's all right. The X20's a good size. The XM-1's turned out exactly as I expected it, and it fits in with the other CSCs out there. I hope it sells really well.

It's just a shame that the split image / focus peaking won't be a feature.

Low end model.. Never expected split image since that requires the new sensor from x100s..

But on other hand, normally focus peaking is a sw feature unless the issue is performance related to extra processing required would slow down something else.
