How about a moratorium on analog trolling?

. It would be like the equivalent of me going into a leica M thread and stating that the leica M is stupid because its so expensive and in some ways I prefer the OM system which is 1/15th the price, so why would anyone buy an M? If I did that again and again in every new leica M thread the leica M owners would kick me in the teeth!

First off, people do that kinda b.s. all the time.

See this is exactly what I mean... Are you the excitement police or something?

Thank you, you took the words right out of my mouth.

I certainly hope no moderators on this forum start deleting posts because they are either unrelated or critical of the topic.

I agree 100%. I think a thread like this discussing board etiquette is the way to go.

Trolling is not allowed on Rff.

Neither Analog nor Digital trolling is allowed.

Yes, it occurs. That is what Moderators and the "Report Post" button is for.

Posts get edited and deleted, threads get moved to "off-topic", and members have been warned and banned for trolling.

It's not unreasonable to ask people to stay on topic within a thread.
If that thread is about film v. digital, then talk about film versus digital.
But if the thread is about different post-processing methods to create monochromes from raw files - there's no reason to chime in about the superiority of Tri-X.
If it bothers you to see a bunch of digital (or film) users enjoying their chosen medium, go create your own thread on the subject.

You know, if we can stop film/digital trolling, we'll all have more time for writing posts with the subject line "Naked pictures of my girl!!!!" that contain photos of cars stripped to primer or pets that have been shaved for surgery. And then we'll all be winners.

... can I interest you in a topless M2?

Haha... I love seeing the view count for those threads at like 4000 when they're only a day old. How can you tell photography forums are predominantly male based...

+2 to that.

That said, it's disappointing how many people — even here — seek to validate their choices by deprecating the equally valid choices made by others. I currently am shooting 85-90% film and I have enough film stockpiled to last 3-5 years, but I absolutely understand the appeal of digital and I am awed by some of the work being done in that medium.

I agree. Ultimately it is about the photos, why anyone would stay with a single medium is beyond me. Digital is different but still plenty functional. If it doesn't work for you then don't use it, if it does then get after it! If somebody told me i could get a better photo out of rigging a Coke can to a Cheerios box with some kind of recording medium inside, i would try it at least once :)

you could cut out that big O as your viewfinder ;)

When some people point out the perceived deficiencies of a particular format, gear choice... whatever, sometimes members perceive this as a personal insult and might categorize it as "trolling". It's not. I don't like 4/3 cameras... I express why. I'm "attacking someone" (which is ridiculous) because I don't care for their cameras? I'm "trolling"? If I said that a $5 point and shoot from a thrift store is a better choice for a pocketable "take anywhere" camera than a pricey digital _____________ for reason A, B, C... watch the fireworks fly. I say those (often) who accuse others of "trolling" need to be a little less sensitive... seems to me.

Again, Nick, you are misrepresenting what I said. I am not sensitive or hurt, nor do I feel attacked or insulted. Nowhere did I say that. I defined what I meant by trolling quite clearly, and it is not what you're describing.

disagreeing isn't trolling...going into a leica is cool thread and pissing all over it by insisting your $39. goodwill special is better is trolling.
