Have an archive of 35mm transparencies and a few negs going back quite a few years. Assorted emulsions, but a lot of velvia 100, some 200. Shot with a huge variety of 35mm cameras.

I have an Epson V500 scanner and an Epson R2200 printer.

I scan the negatives and frequently print them up to the capacity of the printer (13X19 inches). I print from 250 to 300 DPI.

I am, for the most part very happy with the results. In many cases, I feel the pictures would go up from the 13X19 quite nicely.

I could not get good answers on your question, so I decided to just buy the scanner and learn how to use it. I don't do any significant Up-Resolution processing, but that's next.

This is not intended as advice. It's simply my own experience. Just do it. I don't consider myself an expert in these areas, so getting some hangable results is quite rewarding.

I've just compared V700 slide scan to Scitex Smart 320 (12 years old, the same concept as the Kodak EverSmart scanner). Well they are not comparable in terms of resolution and sharpness. Where the unprocessed Scitex scan shows crispness, Epson just mud.

V700 6400 DPI is myth, the same picture scanned at 3200 DPI and resized to 6400 looks even better than "native" 6400. Personally I found the best results when scanned at 4000 DPI, but this does not mean they have that resolution. As Marek stated, max enlargement is 8x if you are not fan of digital artifacts or muddy pictures.

I've heard the same story, Joe, but in that version it was another type of aircraft and the Nikon lens was mounted on a Leica.

It depends how big your enlarger is and how big paper can you process
I have printed Agfapan/APX 100 negatives up to ~150x200 cm (even when the paper was only 40x60 cm) by projecting the negative to the floor or to a wall. That was n the 90s so probably taken with a Nikon or Pentax SLR and developed in a D76 clone.

I have not tried this with Adox 25 or Techpan or ATP recently since I have not had the need to crop so heavily but I would not doubt in doing it.

I'm doing some prints and have both medium format and 35mm. Of course MF surely beats 35mm.. I just wonder how big a print can a 35mm Leica shot go up to? Lens resolution and film play a part. But will appreciate if anyone here can share their experience on doing 35mm prints..

How big have you gone? Under what condition did you shoot and what film or lens did you use?

I have a Nikon Coolscan 5 (4000dpi) and from a good quality 35mm neg or slide I can make enlargements to maybe 24x36 in at the Maximum maybe a little more. If i play around with the file in General Fractials I can go to 48x72 in! and the giant enlargements look just as good as the 24x36s'! - Michael
