I've recently bought an M6 and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. However, I keep seeing reference to 0.72 and 0.85 which, I understand has to do with the viewfinder magnification.

Now, bearing in mind that I bought it second-hand and without a box or manual, how can I tell which version I have?

Also, I bought with it a "Made in Canada" Summicron-M 35/f2 which is in great nick. Is the fact that it's made in Canada of any consequence to either it's quality or its value?

I've posted some shots in "my photos" taken with this pairing and, I think one with the CV 28/f1.9 Ultron Asph. and I'd welcome any comments you may have. These are from the first couple of rolls I fed through the camera - so nothing too artsy - just trying to get used to how a manual camera feels after a few years with a D200!

Anyway, your advice / comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul.

There were only a couple thousand 0.85x M6 Classics made. So, in all likelihood, yours has a 0.72x vf (you are correct that the number refers to the VF magnification). If it is a 0.85x, you will see a little "0.85" etched into the bottom of the vf window (when viewed from the front of the camera).

Your 35 Summicron is a great lens. Although, being made in Canada, it does require special care. Whenever you get it CLA'd, be sure that the tech uses maple syrup in place of the usual lubricants.😀

M6 "Classic" - Is that the one with or without the self timer? 🙄

Does the finder work for you? That's the big question - unless you are looking to sell the camera body and don't wish to mis-represent it.
