Echoing the thoughts of previous posters, I will tend to pick an area and 'meander'. It may take all day and I'll 'discover' nothing.
Since shooting only film, I could go for hours without taking a single shot. Then out of nowhere, an extraordinary subject may appear, like this fellow below :-
