Some spectacular advice. One tip on incident metering I will add that has served me well in shooting B+W: take a few readings with your hand meter and then put it in your pocket. Memorize the variance between the shade/non-shade and just shoot with those readings until you sense a change in luminosity. This way you will start to realize how you sense the subtleties of light. When I use, or rather rely on in-camera meters, I tend to miss this a bit. It is a good connection somehow... my 2 cents
