How do you get out of a rut?

Or the Buddha's refinement of that:

(1) Life involves unsatisfactoriness (The Noble Truth of Suffering)
(2) The cause of suffering is longing for what we don't have (The Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering)
(3) If we can stop longing for things (desire) we can stop or reduce suffering (The Noble Truth of the Cessation of the Causes of Suffering)

That must be where the US Poet Laureate, Denis Leary, got it:

"Happiness comes in small doses folks. It's a cigarette butt, or a chocolate chip cookie or a five second orgasm. You come, you smoke the butt you eat the cookie you go to sleep, wake up, and go back to f**** work the next morning, THAT'S IT! End of f**** list! Life sucks, get a f*** helmet!"

Straight, no chaser. That's how I likes it.

I take a break and look at photographs by Alex Webb. Then I realize "dang - I suck", and keep shooting again to hopefully get better....

Look at and try to make photographs like those by Weston or some other photographer or artist who's work inspires me.

Often times painters will make copies of master works, a time proven method that has a place in the world of Photography.

I will sometimes switch cameras to something wholly awkward for a purpose, like going street shooting with a telephoto on an slr rather than an M with a 50. I "see differently" and tend to find new avenues and interests, even in familiar settings.

If that doesn't work travel to an event of interest can help.

Even after reading all of these great suggestions, I still maintain that lots of exotic sex and other hedonistic activities will do the trick. But don't mind me. I've caught a cold.

Hey! Maybe I should ... :D
