I would never use a non M Leica Mirrorless, but I now see the thread says Leica and not Leica M. As for the Leica SL series, too big, too expensive and with none of the charm of an M? no thank you. The CL was ok, but they discontinued that. It just isn't my thing.

I have bought all manner of Leica machinery and glass over the years. I have spent 0 dollars on any of this new. I have purchased things used, spent some money for overhauls as needed, and generally taken care to not overspend. Most recently, I bought the only digi Leica I own - a Type 109 - for about half of what a new D-Lux 8 costs.
The result is a set of Leicanalia that I use regularly and that - when I do sell it - I will break even or better for the most part (we'll see about the Typ 109).
More generally, any photographic stuff I have purchased new has lost value. The stuff I carefully bought used, has lost little or nothing.

The cost of new or used Leica film cameras? The price of a used leica film camera can get rather nasty if it has a built in light meter. But stick with plain mechanical M body without a light meter, its cheaper then most digital cameras too.
NEW leica, well lets just say you are pretty much into downpayment for a new car land of cost.
NEW leica lensses, you ARE at the cost of most used cars..
i paid just a tad over 1100$ for my leica with "buddha ears" last year. Its a good camera. Have not used it much due to work, and not really doing any camera work since august.
I started out with a voightlander vitomatic II rangefinder. The mirror image is crap in alot of lighting conditions, and the meter is dead. Sometimes it makes a reading, but never anything with reliability as it is just for giggles. My hand held meter told me f/4 @1/60 the camera told me 1 second.
And then i switched to SLR from Canon. Can only get so much replaced or repaired on them. Most repairs would require purchasing a seperate camera to "donate parts".
With my Leica M , i have several good options for people who do repair work. And they can get most of the important internal parts from the factory. Or i can sacrifice a year and send it to germany for an expensive repair.
