Well I still don't get all those "trials" thoughts. HP5+ is now a well known film and we all know that it sings well in D76. Why do you want to try to re-invent tap water guys ?

I understand that many of you are on a budget. That's my case too. And, yes, HP5+ has now become the most expensive 400 film (at least in 135-36). So why don't you want to use D76 ? Used at 1+1 or 1+3 (again, no noticeable difference between 1+1 and 1+3 in my opinion) you will save on the developer.
Here is another photo shot on HP5+ in 120, same roll as above, D76 1+3, 20' at 20°C).
Those two photos were scanned on a crappy Epson 3170 flatbed so it's pretty hard to tell from those scans (though...) but I've made wet darkroom 10"x10" prints on FB paper and they really came out great : no grain, wide grayscale, dense blacks, luminous highlights : what else ? 😉
