How the hell you post images at this website? I'd like to post some of my scans as "10 best ones" but have no idea how to do it. When I tried in the past the images came out as small icons only. Is anybody there that can elucidate me?

When you're logged in, go to the Gallery (link is along the top of the page). In the top right, you'll see a link that says "Upload Photos."
To add an image in a thread, use the button with the "sunset" icon. Paste the URL into the dialog. This can be your gallery here or elsewhere on the web (such as flickr).

Do you just need to adjust the size of the image? I think the gallery makes a thumbnail of your image, but does not otherwise modify it for display.
On the Mac, Preview will work fine. Works better to take a large image and reduce to around 500 pixels on a side.

Thanks, nice clear instructions, yet I can't get adding an image to a thread to work, whether to to a picture that I have in the RFF gallery, or to one on flickr. It makes no difference whether I use the 'Insert Link' or the 'Insert Image' icons.
I can't find any additional ' RFF official' instructions in e.g. the FAQ or anywhere; I'll be grateful if anybody can point me towards any.
I use Firefox or Google Chrome browsers, although it's not obvious why that should impose any constraints.
It's frustrating, because I love this site for the coherence of thread text and images that other people manage to create!

Thanks to a hint from NorpA in
If linking from another site, e.g. for a less 'pixel-stomped' image file, paste instead the link to the JPG file from that site. In Flickr, for example, you can grab it from the HTML or BB Code in the drop-down Share menu.
go to your Gallery picture and Copy Image Location (in e.g. Firefox, by default, right-click on the image, select Copy Image Location) and Paste (e.g. CTRL-V) into the Insert Image dialog box. The pasted-in text should be something like
Code:
[URL="http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/../photopost/data/500/YOUR-RFFM-GALLERY-IMAGE.jpg"]http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/data/500/YOUR-RFFM-GALLERY-IMAGE.jpg[/URL]

You can paste the URL to an image into a thread with (IMG) (/IMG) tags around it, parens replaced with square brackets. You don't need to use the gallery here, you can use any URL.
I have stopped using gallery photos in threads, because hitting the upload limit means I end up having to delete them from my gallery, which leaves broken links in threads.

What I Had To Do Is Download Google Chrome That Let Me Copy The Url Then I Could Paste In Insert Image In The Message Box

This does not always work: I just had that same problem a few minutes ago in the "Zuiko" thread: the URL is there (if you copy it and paste in your browser address bar, you'll see the pictures), but the pictures are NOT shown in the tread itself ...

I had this problem too, if I used external images. Sometimes it pops up. For the consistency of the threads over the years I try to use only RFF gallery images or better only to append an image to the post, using neither the gallery nor an external link. That works forever.

How do you append an image to the post ?
Thanks,

If you mean as a file attachment, I wouldn't recommend that. Those attachments get deleted periodically. Also, only logged-in members will see them, guests won't.

Ok, I found out how to do attachments, but now the system says I'm "exceeding my quota", although I have no attachments at all anywhere on the system, and I respected dimensions (600x600) and filesize (max 195kb) of the files I wanted to attach.
This is ridiculous; I give up.

Ouch! Didn't know that! This really hurts. Same for (old) gallery images. There are threads which are worth nothing without the related images. Now I'm upset.
What is the correct long term way to post images in RFF?
- permanent RFF gallery link: what if full?
- external link: what if the external service changes?
- any other better choices?

Because you're not using a link to an image, you're using a link to a webpage (if you're talking about the picasaweb links I just found). You used this as your image link:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4Qoz_juY9lhIypA7B-1ZVsP6Ys0cKg02UBMauGOS8yI?feat=directlink
when the link to the photo is this:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-...eI/AAAAAAAALtw/Qb8C2-6fy7A/s900/sAAA_1676.JPG
I use flickr for most of my image inserts, and people often use the link urls that flickr provides, that look like this:
http://flic.kr/p/b5cGRe
but that links to a page. You need to use the Actions menu, View All Sizes, and then right-click Copy Image URL from that page to get a direct link to an image that works with the IMG tag.

Go to:

Upload your photo, then use the pre made link for "forum post". Paste the link into your post here.
If you can't figure this out, ask a nine year old.

If you didn't figure out yet that I _know_ how to upload pictures, you probably _are_ a nine year old ...:
1) several people (probably all older then 9) have problems with this (just read all the messages in this tread)
2) I posted pictures in the past quite a few times, first uploaded to several locations, e.g. this tread:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103149
The point is that it just does not always work, and apparently, no one has a real explanation for that (not even the 9 year olds on this forum).

The 9 y.o. remark was certainly uncalled for but hteasly has explained to you why your links didn't work.
The "quota exceeded" error has been happening for a while, not sure if that's being worked on.
