How do you put on a filter?

Hey all, I have never used a filter before but got one for my Elmar 2.8 50, the new one. I got a Leitz e39 filter , which should fit. How do I put it on? It seems to fit but it does not want to screw on; It does not grab onto any threads as they seem to be deeper in.

Hi JM,

I have an Elmar 2.8 50 and a Leitz UV filter - If it is the right size filter and the rings are not damaged it should just screw on.... 😕

Turn it counter clockwise, the wrong way, until it clicks, then screw it on clockwise, the right way.

WHat I forgot was that the ELmar has the built in hood. I have to take the hood off first then screw in on.
