how do you store your gear?

Camera bags. With film & ready to go at a moment's whim... 😉

Camera bag, table, somewhere in some boxes - not quite sure where they all are.

My wife and daughter are at my in-laws this weekend - my cameras tend to take over in their absence. Instead of being on their shelves in my office/den, they are scattered at various points in a 25' radius from where I am sitting.

Wal-Mart has these small plastic boxes with holes in every wall, for $0.97 each. I like them because they allow better air circulation compared to closed-walled boxes (I am deadly afraid of fungus).

Camera gear that's not in current use is placed in plastic bags secured by rubber bands, against the encroachment of dust, and placed on a closet shelf. In-use gear is more variously located in camera bags or in the safe. 🙂

Humidity's a killer where i live so:

Working kit: Dry boxes with "rechargable moisture absorbing bricks"
Broken cameras: on a shelf, gathering rust and mold.....

In Arizona? I would have thought that would have been the least of your worries. But then I have only passed through there.

Myself, just about everywhere. I have some very old ones that are not users on a shelf over the washer and dryer in the utility room. A couple of LF on their shelves away from them.

Two sets of 35mm gear are in bags, ready to go when I want. The Super Press 23 resides in an aluminum case. One 4x5 in its case. All three in the closet. A couple of rangefinders in an Omaha Steak styrofoam case in the truck of my car. With paper stuffing, they don't get so hot. Others in drawers.

Wow, what in the world am I doing with all this stuff. I sure don't use it all. I do take some of them out and use them. I have several Yashica FX cameras. I do like them, but only use a couple with any regularity. One of them I am still cleaning after an ebay rescue. Phew! People who didn't know me would think I had GAS for pete's sake. :bang:

I got some large aluminum cases w/ foam inserts and dividers cheap here in Korea, but the best would be a dehumidifier cabinet. The former are pretty air-tight and it's dryer here than most places.

The better question would be where don't I store it. Cabinets, desks, in bags, one pelican case, up against the wall (the tripod and lighting stuff), in the freezer and fridge (film), on my desk, on the floor, in drawers...coffee table, on my bed...
You can tell I am not married and I have no pets right?

How I see it in my mind:

How it really is?

In a drawer, hidden away from the wife.

😀

in a closet in various cases, ready to go

at least one or two scattered around the house uncased, ready to shoot whatever, whenever

In bags, on bookshelves, on my desk and one always in the rucksack I take to work. La thanatos suggests I get a cabinet to mount on the wall. I just might do that.

I have a humidity controlled plug in cabinate that keeps my stuff at 35% humidity in the much needed near 100% humidity of this furnace they call china
