William, could you tell me more about your Kiev 5? This is the first I hear of a 35mm FOV on an FSU RF. What's the approximate VF magnification factor, and how bright is the VF? I see you have the camera in your avatar, so you must be rather pleased with it.

When you say "standard finder", do you mean the camera's built-in viewfinder, or a regular shoe-mounted auxiliary optical finder? The 50mm framelines on my M3 don't give me any noticable parallax error, even when I get quite close.
I was referring to the KMZ over the built-in finder. It would apply on most cameras. The difference is less than that between the camera's built-in finder and the CL of the lens. On the FED-1 that is 30mm and few cameras will get closer than that.

"good handling" applies not only to bodies, but to lenses, too. The M3 handles well; the J-8 does not. The Summicron handles well, and - I say this without shame - looks better on the M3, too.
Interesting. I have never used a J-8

If the Jupiter took a clip-on lens shade (I detest the screw-in ones), had aperture click-stops and boasted a gorgeous chrome finish, I'd be using it on the M3 much more often
I'm sure you will find the FSU rectangular clip-on hood fits the Jupiter-8, so that's a start. Failing that, I believe Leitz has 42mm clamp-ons and one of those should fit. Because of its age and size, the Summarit may be a good place to look.

I have just this morning finished a couple of rolls with a J-12 on the Zorki 1 and the Kiev 4. The one for the Zorki was an indulgence, as my repair tech put the Zorki film plate back in place for free, and then showed me the J 12 with obvious intent. He still has my IIIA in bits so played a strong hand. He knows that the only thing that I cannot resist is temptation. I used the turret finder on the Zorki and guessed for the Kiev as I was framing similar shots for comparison. It seems a fantastic lens for the price.

A lot of times I just use it on the Zaria without an aux finder, as the Zarias finder seems to show more than the 50mm field of view, and guess focus!
