Thank you, that's what I thought too. All I know is Port Authority off 42nd and Grand Central Terminal off Lex. NY Penn Station I typically avoid as it's a circle of confusion however there are some great shoe stores in the area at street level. Geez, I really miss all the independent shoe stores on 8th Street. Now a tourist corporate conglomerate. Oh well, Easy cotton shoes are still available in my old Walker Street neighborhood. Now that's a good thing and a secret rangefinder image haven to boot.

Sheesh. What a question! and you an Aus'!! Too much time on your hands mate.
There are endless possibilities out there (even if you only photograph kangaroos hopping - but with a RF it will be just the tip of the tail in the frame by the time you press the shutter)
Just get out and do it.
I knew there would be one obligatory reply to tell me to go out and shoot LOL!!!
Are you implying that just because I am down under I should have some extra time on my hands..

I had an assignment today to shoot all houses along a particular canal. And a church, and a bridge named after someone's father. All for a book about him. A bloke from the 1700's. Picking up an autofocus dslr would have made this maybe an easier job, but using my rangefinder today made it just a lot more fun to do. I like the hands-on process of shooting Leica M.

I use for street photography, landscapes, even my kid's sports events. It is great practice to use a rangefinder at a soccer match!
I occasionally torment my family by taking photos of them, but they do not like it. ;-(

It looks like "street" is leading but not by very much, I am glad to see that lots of folks here are using the camera for everyday/family pics, same as myself.

I'm new here, so I hope I didn't miss some kind of obligatory 'introduce yourself' topic
Anyway the poll caught my eye so I voted. Street photography in my case, yes, sorry. I use different cameras, a rangefinder is the only one I really love for street photography. People tend to not take these kinds of cameras too seriously which saves me from the kind of harassment I have endured using other types of cameras on the streets (I suspect being a woman, or a girl as I still see myself, has something to do with this as well, I look much less intimidating so people tend to either come up and talk to me about their own camera and photography stuff or they tend to treat me like crap because I am holding a camera, it's a weird thing)
But, as it's also one of the lighter cameras I own, it's the type of camera I prefer to take with me everywhere, so I take other pictures with it as well of course. Just prefer different types of cameras for different kinds of subjects.

Everyday use, street, landscape, family & friends, and a small amount of shooting at sports event.
Carry a camera every day and just about everytime it is rangefinder.

According to the poll, most people don't use rangefinders as professional tools....OR you could interpret it that people who use rangefinders professionaly don't hang around forums...

I was a bit surprised about that too. Then again if I look at how I use my cameras objectively, of course they get used for a lot of non professional stuff too. But I tend to use specific cameras for specific subjects.. and I shoot most of the snapshot stuff with my iPhone for example, or my X100. I'd rather not spend too much time and money on those kind of photos too
Then again, what is professional? I work both commercially and autonomous.. My commercial work is mostly digital work, alas. My 'own' work is analog most of the time. Street photography is part of that. I don't earn money with it, and exhibitions usually cost more than they produce, money-wise. I'd still call that professional work, but everyone may have his or her own definitions about that.

Oh, I looked back at the poll; I didn't choose 'professional work' there as I thought street just fits more, it's really the camera I use for that mostly. But they go together. I might not be the only one.
And I occasionally shoot a landscape with an rf too. And portraits. And my husband. And friends. And a building. But street is dominant, for sure.
Now that I think about it, I don't think I actually took photos of the cats with it.. not yet :0 that is kind of weird, as they're usually the first ones to be used as test subjects whenever I have "a new toy"...
