I've searched around for this answer, but have yet to come across definitive information on which Leica digital M's get classified as Certified Pre-owned.
Can they be Demos? Trade-ins? Returns? Used cameras that need adjustment or repair and get refurbished by Leica? Used cameras that have changed hands but are new enough to get checked out by Leica and furnished with a new 1 year warranty? Or what?

I just bought a 'certified pre-owned' M-E. It was brand new, not reconditioned, and shutter count was 167, which is barely enough for factory testing. At least on this occasion, Leica re-labelled an obsolescent model as pre-owned, apparently just to discount it.

Weird...... So nobody seems to really know what certified pre-owned means, other than it's a sale that comes with a one year warranty.

It can be for a variety of reasons. That's why same models have different prices.
One miggt be a demo another a customer upgrade trade.
My understanding is they go through and bring the camera to factory spec, then, it's a judgement call as to whether or not they extend a certified warranty and how much to charge.
I spoke with someone at Leica store miami last year about a couple of certified pre-owned MM' caneras.
It's just like with cars.
