So I was taking this picture with the 12mm, and click, and the wind lever froze 😕

powered off, on again, did it again, froze again. Now I'm freaking out, as I've just arrived in NZ on a 5 month trip 😱

Then I heard a second click, and the awful truth dawned... I'd left the lens cap on, and was getting 30sec shutter speed :bang:

This never happens to me because I don't use lens caps, just bags. However, I have known to snap before pulling out the lens hood. 🙂

You don't need an RD-1 to take a picture of your lens cap! 😛

Premature snapping is a common RF user condition. Fortunately it always happens before we remove our caps.

I'm a lens cap virgin & I'm worried that my first experience of lens cap photography will be an unsatisfactory one. Should I seek counselling to help me through this life changing experience?

Also, is there a club I could join to swap lens cap photography experiences and bond with others? Perhaps there's a Lens Cap Photographers Tie I could buy when I break my virginity?

I was at a conference a couple of years ago, happily snapping away. Took about six shots and then for some reason looked down at the lens and saw the lens cap still on. I rewound a few frames and then took some real photos.

A couple of days later, I switched over to a different RF but forgot to check for a takeup spool. When I arrived at my destination, I found I had film but no takeup spool. Using my coat as a changing bag, I stripped the film from a new roll, storing it in a light-tight canister and used that spool (plus some tape) as my takeup spool. Worked great in a pinch. Later, I respooled the film I had removed and used it.

You are in excellent company! Rangefinder cap photography is an art.

I usually try this at night. It adds an element of confusion not found when attempting this type of photography during daylight hours. 😀
