I do use a thumbs up on my M240, I like the grip it affords me but I wouldn't say the camera is unusable without it. It does jab me in the side though, mildly annoying.

When I had the M240, tried a half case and sold it as it made the body too thick for my taste.
Tried the thumbs up and sold it as I used the EVF way more than I thought I would.
Bought the thumbie and really liked it. Not as good as the thumbs up for feel, but better than without.
Also used a Leicagoodies Sling. And still use one on the M7.
Enjoy the new camera! (I've defected to phase one and fuji for digital...)

You know, Roger, after mainly using digital M cameras for a decade my film cameras tend to feel uncomfortably skinny. It is all what one is used to, I guess. After all, an M3 appears to be a bloated giant compared to a iiif.Same here.
Also, digi-Ms are already portly enough, as compared with "real" (film) Leicas, that adding extra lard makes no sense at all to me -- especially fattening them up by putting overcoats (half cases) on them.
Cheers,
R.
If you carry the camera around your neck, doesn't that Thumbie poke you in the chest?
Yes...this is the reason I decided not to use one.

Oh, I have never liked those thumbs up things, I had one for about a day and it just jabbed me in the back, got caught on things, no thanks.
What I do that works really well for me is put a small piece of Griptac in the thumb area of all my M bodies, half moon shaped on the film M's and about a 1-1/2" x 1/2" tapered strip on the thumb "ramp" on the M240.
Works a charm it does....
PM me, I'll send a little bit to do the job, I think you'll dig it and if not, just peel it off.
Brilliant! I was using a piece of handlebar wrap. Thanks for posting!

So far I'm liking it as is. I might add a piece of friction tape on the left side of the thumb bump, but that's it for now.

I was that way too. Until I tried a ThumbsUp. I couldn't believe the difference...

I have a ThumbsUp on my X100s, I'm not a huge fan of it most times. I'm still more inclined to try a half case on the M-P.

I have the thumbs up and really feel it gives me a better grip on my M240. If it pokes me any where I can't tell because I am as plump as my M240!!!

X100s is very different in feel. Doesn't need it it is so light in comparison compared to the M.

It's all moot at this point - I just picked up a Leica multifunction grip, let's see if I like it.

The Thumbie works great with that...
