i cant quite see what you are seeing, its late here so perhaps i will tomorrow--the front door is chrome though
AI am seeing sandpaper swirls in the chrome on the leading edge of the front door. He should have buffed those out. Now look at the paint on the trim above the door and you will see high gloss paint and a sort of semi-flat paint to the left of it. The color doesn't even quite match.
this year and model (almost any welta pre-war is scarce enough at times it seems) doesnt come up that often, though ironically, 3 , in the past few weeks. before that it has been a couple-to 3 years for a 1938 weltax on ebay. and this body of his does appear to be quite good.
i considered buying it just for the body (i already have one though) and asking what he did with the original shutter and lens (or finding a shutter and lens of my own of the correct year to put on it)..i wouldnt care that it was a Cassar lens...just keep it as it was !! it may seem extreme, to a strick user only of camera but these just dont appear every day, there not common! enoy using an old camera for what is--not neccassary to make it something else and misrepresent what it is.
Well, I'll give you that it could be made quite good. It's a frankencamera now though, and has some (easily fixed) flaws in the finish. As for the original lens, I wouldn't care if it were a Cassar either, since Cassars are quite good, as far as three element lenses go.
if someone wants a weltax with tessar -post war, there are plenty , oodles around. why change the lens from a pretty scarce camera, that ,ok, may or may not fetch a dollar, to a frankenstein camera just to make a dollar..but in the process tell everyone that ita a post war weltax!! just false
some people shouldnt be allowed to touch cameras
Your question contains its own answer: just to make a dollar. It could be worse. He could have made one of those clown cameras out of it, with the simple addition of one of those blue neon polkadot bellows of his and a little purple snake leather. He could glue some sparkles on it too -- just wait, it's only a matter of time. One day he'll discover paisleys and plaids.
