understand R4M is for wide angle photography that depth of field is deep with wide angle lens ... moreover, is rangefinder patch still usable as EBL is very short? I'm thinking to mount 24mm lux to get soft background with subject being sharp at front.

thank you for sharing your comment.

Well as you say the camera was made for WA so I don't really understand you concern. I'd worry about focusing a 50mm or longer accurately but a 24??? If THIS camera cannot focus a fast 24mm lens accurately, it would be a dismal failure as a camera.

The R4A works fine with even a fast 50 (f/1.5), in my experience. It is great for 24/25mm lenses, with still some "air" around the frame to see a bit more of the scene. But the new 24mm Summilux is a very large lens. And the R4 viewfinder is quite close to the lens centerline. Combine these two facts, and the conclusion I draw is that you will see a lot of the 'lux lens barrel in the viewfinder. Viewfinder occlusion bothers some users more than others, but this would be a fairly extreme case I think. Of course there's always the option of adding a 24mm viewfinder on top as well...

The R4x EBL is about the same as that of the Leica CL. Someone apparently thought you could focus a 90/f4 with the CL, so what not a 24mm lens on the R4x?

I've been using a 25 Biogon on the R4M, without any problems. But I haven't been deliberately trying to get out-of-focus backgrounds, as you describe. Mostly, I've been exploiting the great depth of field of a 25mm lens.

I tried the 21f1.4 on my R4M last year at Photokina. The lens does intrude a bit in the finder, but certainly not enough to make it difficult to use. The rangefinder works very well for a fast 21, even at f1/4. Didn't try the 24f1.4 - but it is virtually the same size anyway. I use my R4M mainly with the 21f4.5 Biogon and the 21f2.8 Biogon and so far I cant blame the camera for any mis-focussed shots.
It also works extremely well with the 28f2.0 Ultron.

I used a 24/2.8 on an R4A for quite a while and yes it occluded about 20% of the VF but that didn't bother me at all. I actually bought the camera for that lens and it worked very well on it. At least for me...

Thank you for all your comments from using the camera ... which encourage me to buy R4M for my wide angle photography.

please share some photos taken with that magnificent new lens! I don't think I will ever have a chance to play with one, let alone own one, so I would love to see some photos.
Enjoy!
