Hello all,

How is the 28mm elmarit asph? I think I've located a fairly good deal one one, but I've never used any 28mm lenses. I would be using it instead of the 35/2 uc hex if I were to purchase it. Any thoughts as to how these two lenses compare?

The two focal lengths seem to be quite close together so not sure if purchasing a 28 makes sense.

Anyway, just seeking some input from those of you have used one or both lenses. Thanks, as always!

edit - trying to decide between picking up the 28 or a gf670. apples and oranges, I know... 🙂

Depends also on what you intend to mount it.
I do not use the Asph but the 28 Pre-asph from Leica and also the VC f1.9 and f3.5
All are good

The Elmarit ASPH is small, sharp, very rectilinear and very contrasty. It is a different type of imaging than a middle of the road 35mm Summicron like lens. The bokeh is not so great, but on a 28/2.8 it does not matter much.

I called up the vendor and inquired as to whether it would still be possible to get the lens for the originally listed price. I was immediately transferred to somebody more senior and the gentleman said 'sure thing' 😀

So, I've got a nice 28/2.8 asph on its way to me.

Awesome dude. Leica has made great 28's in the past 30 years or so. You won't regret it.

Though I just saw your edit, and I think you should get a GF670 next 😀 I did!

Thanks. And thank you to everybody for the input.

$1650 for the lens, demo condition, with box, case, hood, etc. I'm quite pleased. 🙂

I definitely need to get a gf670 at some point. Either I save up for quite a while for it or I sell the hasselblad. Tough call.

Which hassy do you shoot? If it's an early model with a dim screen I would say you should sell it. if it's a later model with a brighter screen, keep it. The GF670 is an amazing camera in all respects, and if you enjoy shooting a rangefinder, it's the best option available in my opinion!
