Kinda interesting to know they had their own reactor under there. And that it was all hush hush stuff.

Doesn't surprise me that much, considering the relationship Kodak had with the US Government. Kinda terrifying to think about, though...

With thermonuclear weapons.
Please tell me you are joking when you say that. How could you honestly think they were going to use it for weapons?

This is fascinating... Forget Leica 'glow', kodaks films were doing it all along!

Are you sure they spoke of thermonuclear weapons.
That part was a joke by the OP.

Ah.. thanks.
If you want to visit an interesting place, check out the cave under the stadium at the University of Chicago..
You've piqued my curiosity - what's there?

Who knows what long forgotten secrets lie in Kodak Park?

Didn't know Kodak had a research reactor. That's cool. A lot of university's have them, which many don't know about. Reed College has one and teaches undergrads how to operate it. Not that they are kept secret or anything.
And not to be pedantic... but I'll be pedantic. Fission reactors aren't thermonuclear, nor are fission weapons (atomic bomb using plutonium or uranium). Thermonuclear means fusion. Sorry, I'm a thermonuclear physicist

When I did my national service 20 or more years ago we were given a clothes brush, or in fact two. One with black bristle - the clothes brush. One with blue bristle - the Nuclear brush. For use in the field if we were ever subjected to nuclear fall out, we could just brush it off! Hah, beats your glasses hands down!I have some special glasses that protect me from that sort of thing anyway

They didn't give you those cute rubber romper suits?

Nope, I suspect they didn't think we were worth it. I worked for the payroll officer for a while, so I know that if you lost the blue bristle brush you got deducted 40p in pay. That's what we were worth! They didn't give you those cute rubber romper suits?

I worked in Kodak Park for over a decade (till 1996) and was ALL OVER the plant and tunnel systems and never saw such a thing! That doesn't mean that it was not there to be sure but I had access everywhere. Besides, they had MUCH more dangerous explosive manufacturing systems that could have easily gone boom is the process control systems failed!
Kodak had 2 major research facilities as well that they were world famous for where they investigated all sorts of cool stuff with pretty much a blank check.

When I was growing up, there was a joke:
-What to do in case of nuclear attack?
Wrap yourself in a white sheet and slowly crawl to the cemetery.
-Why slowly?
So you are not causing any panic.

After the war they moved the entire operation to the SW suburbs at Argonne National Labs. But don't worry, the prevailing SW winds would actually make a disaster there much worse in terms of fallout. Remember the great Chicago fire????
