How long do fixers last? 2 months?

jusxusfanatic. Mix up a 1-liter liter of fix (use the 1:4 ratio that everyone recommended). Keep it in a dark place! Try to keep it cool too. When you develop film, just use the fixer as you're supposed to, then pour it back into your 1-liter bottle after the fixing step is done. Keep re-using your fix until it stops working well. Don't worry too much about all this -- When you get to the point where it takes too long to finish fixing your film (like perhaps 15 minutes), then its time to mix up a new 1-liter bottle of fix. So easy!

FWIW, I just used some Fixer I mixed up over a year ago. I developed a few rolls of 135 film and all came out fine.

The Fomapan Classic 100 always surprises me when I pull it out of the tank. It clears up really clear. No base tint. It also dries flat and with little/no curl. And on top of that, it has great exposure latitude and gives me well-behaved contrast most of the time. A touch grainy, but it is film after all.

Anyway, the fixer is over a year old, stored in a bottle about 3/4 full. Working fine.

I use my fix repeatedly until it stops fixing. I don't test, but just keep using it until it stops clearing my negatives in a reasonable time. That works for me because I have a 2-bottle system. I mix up my big packet of powdered fix into 2 bottles. One of them is filled all the way to the top and capped such that there is essentially no air in the bottle. If I keep it cool and dark that bottle will last well over a year. I haven't kept track, but I'm pretty sure I've used fixer from such a bottle that's over 2 years old (during years when I'm not shooting as much film). I appreciate chems that tend to last a long time...... such as Rodinal, HC-110, .....caffenol gets mixed up on an as-needed basis.
