I know BHPhoto and Adorama is first come first server with the 50mm Summilux ASPH but what about the places you can reserve one? Where can you reserve one and do they charge you when it comes in or ahead of time?

Most importantly, if you reserved one now, how long would you expect to wait for one?

I'm considering shooting an entire year with only a 50 lux and an m9p.

You'll have to call around with these questions, as reports on the forums range from off-the-shelf to nine months wait and payment in full to no reservation deposit.

Get on various waiting lists. Last year, I did so with Poplflash, and it took about two months. When they email about availability, pounce quickly.

I waited about a few months this until I got one this summer. But I was only on one dealer's waiting list. So if you put your name on several, it may take less.

I don't know really, there's quite a few new or preowned down where I live in Indonesia. And due to holiday season none of them is selling..

Pick the best dealer and stick with him/her. If you're on multiple waiting lists it really jacks up Leica production plans when dealers place their orders. There are some very well known dealers out there you can hook up with.

Probably a good idea to establish a relationship with a camera dealer you like and occasionally remind them of your interest. I was on a waiting list for a 50 summilux asph and then the shop called me because they had somebody trade one in. I am pretty sure that if I had not now and then called them to reconfirm my interest they would not have thought of me.

Getting on multiple waiting lists merely compounds the problem. This is a niche market, a niche item. STOP trying to save a couple bucks by stabbing a dealer in the back, and just go with who you know and have bought from. Sometimes the little guys get a turn since not all production goes to B&H or Adorama.

Getting on a dozen lists at a dozen different dealers does nothing but inflate the need for inventory. And could possibly lead to sales costing more than MAP!
