I decided that I basically 'trust' Ilford to keep making film for the forseable future.

I cut my teeth on HP5 and FP4+. These days I've been enjoying Delta 100 (maybe due to scanning). Delta 3200 is always wonderful. Professionally, I absolutely love XP2 Super. Pan-F is an interesting and contrasty little monster. When I nail it I like it but Delta maybe have a longer tonal scale and finer grain. FP4+ is probably my favorite Ilford film though. FP4+ and Rodinal are the dream team.

Delta 100 and HP5+ for B&W.
Ektar 100 and Portra 400 for Colour.

At the moment, I mainly shoot HP5+, which is very tolerant of exposure errors, easy to push/pull process, and cheap. However, I much prefer the tonality and grain of Delta, so I will probably switch to Delta 400 when the last of the current HP5+ is gone.

BTW, I think the developer matters at least as much as the film. For example, Delta 100 in DD-X seems completely different (sharper, less grainy) than in HC110.

Delta 100 and 400 depending on light condition. Ilford again with XP2S when I'm lazy or have no time-desire to develop ...

PS: something else when in the color mood...

I have used Tri-X 400 135/36 exclusively for over thirteen years. I still need to get some Fuji Acros and try it; Acros is probably a great emulsion for specific subject matter; its fingerprint is obviously a world apart from that of Tri-X. Nothing wrong with a little variety, though...

Since the beginning of the year I have shot:
(35mm)
  1. TMX 100
  2. TMY 400
  3. Tri-X
  4. Delta 100
  5. FP4+
(120)
  1. TMY 400

In the fridge I have:
(35mm)
  1. Technical Pan
  2. HP5+
  3. FP4+
  4. Tri-X
  5. TMY2
  6. Foma Classic 100
(120)
  1. TMY 400
  2. Neopan 400

I like messing about with film 🙂

For 35mm in the Leica it is mostly HP5+ and FP4+, as I have had great experience with Ilford and therefore want to keep them in business. I also occasionally buy some Fomas and Rollei RPX for medium format and in 35mm for the Rollei 35S. I really like the Foma 200 in MF, and plan to give the RPX 25 a try in both formats as well. Everything else in my freezer (Tri-X if any left, Superpan 200, Double-X, other Stuff?) is of such small quantities that it is just for when I feel like it's time for a little bit of variety.

My 35mm BW film hoard

My 35mm BW film hoard

In my refrigerator now I have bricks of Ilford HP5+ and Pan 400, plus a couple rolls of Fomapan 200 Creative.
I recently gave away the last of my expired Kodak Tri-X, but I do have ten rolls of Eastman 5222 (Double X).

I also have my last half dozen rolls each of Fuji Neopan SS and 400, plus partial bulk reels of original Agfa APX100
and some long-expired Kodak Panatomic-X. I don't foresee acquiring more so these are my "special occasion" films.

I've got a ton of emulsions and thousands upon thousands of feet of cine film, but I can't remember the last time I loaded up something other than Tri-X. In the off chance I stray from Tri-X it's to Acros.

I think the reasoning is that digital has made me lazy, Tri-X and stand developing caters to that while giving me a more different look than my digitals can provide.

I also take forever to go through a roll of film; Usually a couple months to get 36 frames. I like the look of Tri-X at box speed, if it happens to be too bright I just throw in a N9. With Tri-X I've got all my bases covered for exposure (to the extent that film allows). I've lost all my notes from years of using different developers and default to throwing in 5ml of Rodinal per roll of film and letting it sit, regardless of what the film was exposed at (unless it's considerably under exposed).

Whatever's left in the freezer from some good deals in the past few years...

TX, HP5+, TMY, Neopan 400, Neopan 1600

I do miss Arista Premium 400 and Legacy Pro 400.

I really like HP5 for general shooting, although I'm still trying to find the perfect developer for it, (which one do you use?)
Also love FP4 or Fomapan 200 when there's enough light.
And TMAX 400 when I need fine grain, love what you can achieve with this film.

I jotted them down, and my word, I have 10 types!

Ilford
Delta 100 (both)
Delta 400 (both)
FP4 (both)
PanF 50

Kodak
Tri-X (both)
TMax 100 (both)

Fuji
Acros 100 (120mm)

Others
Legacy 100
Fomapan 100
Arista EDU Ultra 400 (120mm)

Basically I buy what is easy to find locally (and we really only have a handful of shops selling film), the others we would have to ship in. Ultimate favourites is still Acros 100 (120mm), Legacy 100 (35mm), TriX and Delta 100 as well as FP4.

Use probably in roughly equal amounts: Tri-X at boxspeed; HP5+ if I want to push it to 800 or 1600 (these are my 'daily shooting' emulsions; their flexibility means I feel comfortable both outside and indoors)

Use less frequently: FP4+; T-Max 100; Ilford's SFX200 (I'll use these if I'm shooting out in the countryside, for example)

AgfaPan 100 and Tri-X for decades, until Agfa went belly up. Then just Tri-X. Added Double-X to the mix a few years ago. Like the cost of Doulbe-X when bought in bulk (400 ft cans) and like the tonal qualities, especially when used with 1960's era lenses.

Lately, because of a 16mm/110 obsession, I'm also shooting some old Plus-X 16mm motion picture film. Such sweet, tiny grain.
