Went to France, Switzerland, and Italy last summer. Brought 2 cameras...

Rollei 35 RF w/40mm Sonnar, and 25mm ZM Boigon

Pentax ZX5N w/Tamron 70-210 F 3.5 Zoom

Had pretty much all the lengths I needed. I shot Portra 160VC in the Rollei and Portra 400VC in the Pentax.

I had earlier voted "two", but on a 2-week trip last month to the Caribbean I took two Contax G2 bodies, 21, 28, 35, 45, and 90mm lenses, plus a Canon ELPH Jr with fixed-focal lens loaded with Kodak BW400. The Contaxes used Fuji NPS for longer focal lengths and NPZ for the shorter on the assumption I'd be going wider indoors in poor light. So, now it's "three"!

Now considering what to take to Sicily next April.

Sorry, Pablito, after I wrote my reply I saw you were responding to someone else. That'll teach me to read the quote before hitting the keys!

This last summer I went on holiday with only my Olympus 35RC. I ended up with some great shots, and having only a fixed lens really concentrates the mind on finding photographs. Naturally, if I had a Leica M + lenses I'm sure these would have come along instead...

I was in Poland a couple months ago and I took three. I always have my little PS digital on my belt for little video clips. In addition to that, I take my M6 for my main work always with black and white film, and my 5D for color work and night photography. I don't always carry all of my cameras with me though. I often will leave one of the big cameras at the flat.

I've voted for three, although it would be fair to say that this has evolved over the years. Dependent on the location/destination I will select a "main" camera & support system. This may be based around my M7, or a DSLR such as my E-1 or E-400. The bulk of the lenses I take will then be in support of the first choice. If I am going to a city, such as Venice, the M will be the first choice. For somewhere that I may need telephoto or fast AF capabilities, the DSLR takes pole position.

One may act as backup to the other, but then only one lens is brought for the backup. If the DSLR is first choice then I may, as in Vietnam earlier this year, take my IIIc.

Third choice is always a small compact, either film or digital. Digital is handy for short video clips, as has already been pointed out.

If I have to travel really light, then it's one main camera (M or Screw or E-400) with one or two lenses, plus a "serious" compact such as the G7.

As with other respondents I would tend to only carry what I plan to use on the day when on location - the rest will stay secure in the hotel.

Regards,

Bill

Well, it depends if I'm taking my medium format stuff or just using 35mm.

If it's a 35mm trip it's the M4-P with 50, 90, 28 lenses; the IIIf with 15mm & 21mm lenses. If I know that I will need a long lens I will bring an OM1 body with 135mm, 200, & 400mm lenses.

My wife will bring an OM-1 body with 24, 35, and 85 lenses. She's probably going to move to digital soon.

If it's a MF trip them I bring a Hasselblad 500C with 80, 50, and 150mm lenses. If I can fit it in I will bring the Mamiya 645 1000s with the 35mm lens. If not the IIIf with the 21 is a substitute.

I don't take the 2000FC/M on trips anymore - the 50mm f/2.8 is too damm heavy. I have taken the 2000F/CM with the 110 by itself and enjoyed it.

I voted 3 because i will take my digital P&S along in february to south africa. Mainly because my sister asked me for some miniature plant shoots in the mountains down there :) and maybe for some easy snapshots of ourselves.
Otherwise, i'd be happy with the rolleiflex + the konica hexar af (or M2+90/2, still thinking if i'd need a longer or a wider next to the 6X6 normal lens).

Depends on the trip. If I need to travel light and fast in an area where there is a high potential of theft then all I take is an M6 w/ a 35 f2 Summilux and a 90 2.8 Elmarit. I can fit both of these in a very small Eagle Creek bag and still have room for film and stuff.

If it is a safer place to carry equipment then I take 2 M6 bodies, a 35 f2, 35 1.4 ASPH, 50 f2., 90 f2.8, Leica Tripod with ball and socket head, a P&S digital, a Sekonic L508 meter, and a Leica SF20 flash all packed into a Domke 803 satchel. Occassionally I lug a Gitzo G026 but not often on trips.

Right, depends on the trip. My family is considering driving to the Canadian west coast this summer. Landscapes require MF to do them justice IMO, and travelling by car allows more gear to be taken than a fly and walk holiday.

6x7 rangefinder with fixed 80mm lens, 400 B+W
M6, 400 B+W
Hexar RF, 100 colour slide film
21, 28, 40, 50, 90mm lenses
35mm point and shoot, 100 colour neg film

I'm going on a trip to France in about two weeks time or so...

I'm taking 2 cameras. My film rangefinder and medium format Yashica-Mat.

If i can get my d70s body sold, i'll hoepfully be bringing along an RD1.... but i dont know if thats gonna happen in time. -_-;

If I'm on a driving trip I take a lot of equipment. Med format, 35mm, telephoto lenses, tripod, basically what I've got.

If I travel by air I go light. Usually just my M4-P or my Nikon F3HP.

I have an upcoming trip to the Middle East. It will be a three week trip.
I may take the {M6 + Rokkor 28mm/2.8 + Summicron 50mm} + either {FE2 with 105mm/2.5 Nikkor} or (Canon F1N + 85mm/1.2L}.

The RF set is compact and practical for street photography [if that is allowed], and the tele set up if for family shots. If I want to reduce weight, I could replace the 105 SLR Nikkor with its RF version and drop the F1N.
