It could limit my awareness or is it? For me Arbus did a brilliant thing that no one ever touched. It's the introspection through exhibition and thinking through life, mix of psychology art and reality. She was first in this field. Arguing is short sighted for an internet forum which is based on quick and immediate reactions and common sense, but for me Arbus is the best photog I know period...

I'm just about to read Bosworth's Biography. Her work does captivate me. I see what "edodo" talks about above here.

I see the relationship between people matters more than the camera.
 
just saw the arbus exhibit in edinburgh, and i'm sold. not sure about the term "best", but she's easily one of my favorites!

I can agree with that! The giant, or the two kids, or the kid in the park ... wow. By the way, have you ever seen her contact sheet of the kid in the park? It's 12 shots , all from the same vantage point, and there he is, acing goofy in front of her camera. She definitely picked the right one, but it's cool to see that she shot all around the zinger, just like many of us do. But she nailed it, and knew it, so yep. Genius.
 
There is a documentary made by her daughter a few years after she commited suicide, that film is very informative and I must confess I didn't grasp the whole deal about Arbus before seeing it.
Arbus is like the John Lennon of photography to me!
 
This is my first post here. I'm female and had an M6 not long ago, soon I'm going to have another one, maybe an M8 too. I have a feeling that most females who are shooting M's are shooting film M's........I think we're less 'techy' and just like to get out there and do it.

I like this thread, some people have interesting things to say, some not.

My colleague Zu has two G Contax, and after much hinting will be a Leica RF shooter next time I see her. She does not hang out here, but she is in my photos. ;-) Am not sure which she will get.

Great to see some female photogs on here.

One gross generalisation I have noticed is that female photogs, in general, seem to be better at capturing emotions and feelings, and on some occasions a picture can just be of an emotion, rather than a subject per se.

I wish I could incorporate some of that into my work.

I don't see why not!:) I'd love to see them. I loved seeing the guitars but know very little of them!...MOF, I know little of camera's but love them non the less!;) Where are all the lady M users that posted to this thread back in Feburary? I'd sure like to see some of your work. I love the work of helen hill, Lilserenity, & maggieo, not because they are female, but because they inspire me to become a better photographer through viewing their work!

I may be chauvinistic, but I think girls with Leicas can be quite cute. Here is my wife as an example... :)
