How many Languages.....

The poll has a little to say about the frequency you use all keyboard languages you have in your computer, but there is a reason they are installed.

Now my old computer had Japanese installed for some photo links which had both Japanese and English, but now I just ignore the attemps to install languages I can't read. Being in the USA, this doesn't present a problem. It may be smart to install as many langauges as you come across, but so far it hasn't caused me any serious problems when cruisong the web, or opening documents.

the first 2 are fluent, Japanese was from living in Tokyo for 6 years and studying a little in college, Vietnamese was 3 month intensive 4 hours a day 5 days a week study abroad while at college, and spanish was studied in high school.

I have English as a primary (obviously) in both of my PC and laptop, then Hebrew and Russian.
My keyboard, aside of being regular US English, has Hebrew letters and I installed tuned phonetic Russian keyboard to match most Enlish letters to their Russian "mates".
Hebrew mostly needed for local paperwork, English as a system and some chat, Russian only for chat...

My desktop in Spanish, my laptop in French and my work computer in English. Get pretty annoying with the accents and the qwerty/azerty thing but can´t avoid it when you are expatriated .

Canadian English, US English and Portuguese Portuguese. I hate to see those little boxes that are substituted for foreign characters when I visit, say, a Japanese or a Russian site. So I installed all the fonts for the various languages.

My academic field is comparative literature, and I specialize in Slavic (mainly Polish), so I have lots of languages on my computer. Keyboards that I have active are English (US), Polish, Russian, Czech, French, and German.

English, Japanese, and German. 95 % English (science, email, and RFF ...), 4% is Japanese (which I try to avoid because I never really studied it and spoken and written Japanese are two different worlds... 😱), !% German (my native language but of no practical value).

I'm not sure how to count this, but since I use a Swiss German keyboard (QWERTZ) I can type in almost any European language without hunting for symbols. I also have it set up to type Japanese (日本語！) as I'm studying the language at the moment.

Infuriatingly, the default setup for typing in other character sets in Windows assumes that you are using a QWERTY. If you aren't you have to edit the registry or many of your key assignments will be messed up.

(Windows)Installing a language means you have a new keayboard (see Regional and Language options in Control Panel). You got an icon on the lower bar (XP Win) to select different keyboard. Enabled Windows shows English menues, But there area also localized systems showing dif. languages

And Yes, there are localized versions of Photoshp wich are full enabled versions and also localized.
The localized keyboard istallations are important, because switching to other language leads to changing the write direction. Arabic and Hebrew are RTL langages. Even Excel and Word are RTL application

Estonian and English. The difference is only in few letters (üõöä). Russian might be installed aswell, but I dont know.

In that sense I have two languages installed, English and Japanese. Of course this setup wouldn't stop me typing in French or Spanish if need be.
