I don't know why I'm embarrassed to mention this publicly, but I have three Leica bodies. Maybe it's because I never thought I'd fall so 'head over heels' for rangefinders. Maybe it's because part of me considers it an extravagance to have three beautiful film cameras when I don't really NEED three Leicas.

At any rate, I love the Leica M's. There's something magical about the industrial design behind the Leicas. I don't know what it is. But I know lots of us here share that same affection.

If I could, I'd try to compete with Tom A. (up above) but for now I'll just have to spend quality time with my M3DS, M6 classic, and M7.

Here's a very flattering shot of my M6 classic, with a CV 35/1.4 and Zhou case. I love this camera. It was my first Leica. It's currently getting a tune-up from Youxin Ye, and I eagerly await its return.

I have three.
My combat tested and approved M4, an M4-P Anniversary body (awaiting return from Youxin right now who's performing a CLA) and an M9.
The M9 gets used more (but less and less lately since I've fallen in love with black and white film again) but is loved the least.

I've had only one for the last 4 years. An M2 which I've never regretted. I can't imagine any other model being better...

I've spent the last years building up a lens lineup. After I get a super-wide soon I might start thinking about getting a second M. You know - a back-up. 🙂

Either an M3 or an M4-2.

Let's see... my Leica acquisition history goes like this... Many, many years ago while I was in university I bought my first M3, and then another which I gave to my girlfriend at that time. A year or so after I graduated, I added an M4 which I bought from a retired Life Magazine photographer. Somewhere in the late 8o's, my whole kit with the M4 and M3 bodies and all my lenses went "missing". Luckily, my insurance covered the whole replacement cost and so I acquired a late issue M4-2 and an early M4-P as well as replacement lenses. Since then I've added an M6, an M2, and if it counts, I had 3 Konica Hexar RF bodies, but kept just one of the Limited RF bodies. Someday, if I can weather this economy, I might add a digital M.

Ah, HuuBL, do well us! And remember you don't have to count the barnacks, as they aren't M-mount bodies -- that should save you a few minutes 🙂

ok...., well it's easy counting from 1 to 7, with an M4 double plus a CL, makes 9, if I'm correct.

Now here's a question: it seems to me Leica folks, or good rangefinder folks, if they have SLR equipment, go for Olympus or Nikon. I just sold my whole Olympus collection to keep feeding my Nikon head: F, F2 (both plain prism) and F3 HP, plus the magnificent F100. Any other Nikonistas among you all who've been commenting here? If not, what's your favorite SLR?

Only over the past few years have I discovered rangefinders, and I own a M3-DS and a Wetzlar M6.

Originally a Nikon SLR shooter. Culled down the SLR's by selling two F2AS's, but I currently own three Nikon F3's all equipt with motordrives so I don't have to change lenses.

Thinking I might want a 0.85 MP way in the future.

It has been posted on another Rff site - but these are some of my M2's. At the moment of the picture there were 13, but one was on loan to a friend and another was having a shutter replaced.
Of course, my excuse is - I need all 15 to test M2 Rapidwinders - and I stick to that reasoning.
There are other M's (M4P's, M6's , M6 TTL's and MP's) all kept for the same reason - testing Rapdiwinders. OK. I do like Leica's. This is not a recent stash. Some of these cameras I got in the 60's, some in the 70's and 80's.

Tom,

Your best excuse is that you shoot a lot of film. How many Leicas have you worn out over the past 50 years?

Have you seen Carl Merkin's brassed out black paint M2 with Leicavit? Its a camera with MOJO.

Anyways, I love my Rapidwinder and Rapidgrip.

Tom is of great value here to show us the "high road" and reduce any uneasiness about having as many as, say, four M Leicas! Umm, I have four... my long-time partner M2, and then newcomers M8 chrome that got upgraded VF and shutter, M8 black, and M9 black, both the latter bought used from RFF members. By the time the M9 came along, the M8's were old buddies.

Interesting turn out. I had a hunch that most people would have around 2 Leica M bodies. Should save up money for my next one to join the crowd.

One M3 SS, 2x M2 and 2x M4 for me 🙂
When the MP came out in 2003, I bought one but didn't like the finish then sold it off to return to the classic. Same as with M4-P, M6 classic, M6 ttl.
