I'm retiring my white iMac to the kitchen. I think it'll look right at home. 😀
How many of you have not bought an M9 but would if a real chrome one came out?

cameras only come in black for me, although I would make an exception for a chrome M2/3 and maybe M4, because the finish and detail was sooo fine. Anything later, especially M7, MP looks gaudy in silver, IMO, but I may be biased.

I don't think the color available has a thing to do with the reasons people have chosen not to get an M9. I suspect the two main reasons for not getting one would be cost, for those of us who have no money, and the fact its digital for those who insist on film only. My reason is cost.

If I had the money, I'd be reluctant to part with it, because I dislike both current cosmetic options available for the M9. Now, I don't have the money, so the point is somewhat academic, but if there was a genuine chrome version available, I'd be more likely to consider selling a bunch of CV glass and my M8 to get an M9.

I personally would choose a chrome one. I looked at the m9 and was not all that enthusiastic about the grey. Not that I'm going to be able to afford one. If I'm lucky a chrome m8.2... No the finish does no matter if the camera works, but aesthetic appreciation is not a flaw or a sign of stupidity. This is Leica, famous for their well built chrome cameras and lenses. See all the chrome and fine finishing returning to bicycles? It's going to show up as 'retro' cameras and already is.

Boy I really started something with this chrome thing! I would say cost for me is the big deal as well. My number one reason for getting any camera is for the photos I want to make. Hell, my M8 has over 70,000 exposures on it and it is still going strong! It did cost me $4,700 USD, but it was worth it many times. Now for the 7K plunge! All I want to say is for that money, Why not a chrome model as long as I am blowing 7K. I am waiting, but will not forever, and in the end I will make a choice for the photos, not the camera finish. Right now, My M8 is fine, and I am even considering another one as a backup (I have black chrome and may buy a silver chrome M8). More importantly, a friend of mine who also is a professional, buys every other generation of camera. The M9 , although much improved, is not better than the M8 by leaps and bounds, but is a logical progression to the next level. For me, the M9.2 or M10 will be the real deal for me. I do however really love chrome (I have a fetish I suppose, and a chrome M9 would probably cause me to buy.
Another point: Look at gun enthusiast magazines. I do not own a gun (I am scared to death of them) but you can see the expert marksman loves the guns he or she uses, and many take pride in the guns they own, especially the many metal finishes, etc, that are available. many are very professional. I guess it is a personality thing, and my camera for me is a very personal thing since i see it as an extension of my eye mind and body. In my case, chrome really excites me!

In all seriousness, I can see what you're saying - it's a lot of money for a camera, but I really think the grey finish looks badass... not sure why no-one seems to like it..

We all know if you buy an M9 you're going to take a big hit on depreciation but there's also the added concerns about long term reliability and availability.
Wouldn't it be great if Leica had an M Digital upgrade program.
So if you bought and M9 you could have Leica swap out the sensor and electronics as required.
Some folks would choose not to upgrade... Some folks would.
And some folks would still be buying them new.
Leica have always sold more lenses than bodies. That's were they should focus on making money... IMHO.
It may sound expensive but it would be cheaper than buying a whole new camera.
Of course Leica won't do it but I can dream.

I use to think that too. Yet I have been using the M8 for the last two weeks as my M9 is in Solms for a repair and I can tell you that I miss it a lot. More than I expected. The M8 is great but the M9 and full frame is way much better 😉
As for your initial question ... if I could afford two M9's, maybe I'll wait a little longer to get the color I want on the second one. Otherwise I'll just rush on the first one available.

More common analogy might be cars. To some, purely utilitarian...point A to point B. For others, color is essential to the experience. Different strokes.

1. It has a functioning and reasonably accurate shutter at between 1/30-1/250th sec.
2. It has a light sensitive device, film, sensor, glass plate, paper.
3. Gaffers tape can stick to it reasonably well.
Apart from that I have never really though, if it had X I would get it, if it doesnt have X then whats the point in wondering if it had X. Each to their own though, and all of my cameras are black... hmm subconcious at work maybe.
