If I had the money for one, I'd invest the cash so my son doesn't have to live with me when he graduates college in 16-17 years from now.

I belong to the same a local RFF group as Donald in Post #14. These folks are pretty serious photographers, not luxury goods consumers, and when we gather to shoot events or visit galleries there are consistently more Leicas in evidence than any other kind. But not M240s. In a photo 'collective' to which I belong, three out of 30 members use digital Leicas, M9, M9P, and M-E - but no 240s there either.
Perhaps the 240 has been a financial success for Leica, but it underwhelmed many digital Leica users. They wanted the higher ISOs, but initially, at least, its color seemed to many to be inferior to M9. It took too long for Leica to upgrade the firmware in this regard. Also the number Leica could supply was initially low, with long waiting lists; so by the time you could easily try and buy one, the camera was obsolescent in comparison to high ISO performance of other cameras.
To some extent this explains the absence of M240s at our recent RFF gathering, and the surprising appearance of four Monochroms. The MM really offers a breakthrough in digital BW image quality, while the 240 offered only incremental improvement - if that.
At this 'late' date in digital camera cycles, I think of the 240 more as jewelry than as something a committed photographer is likely to buy.
(With my apologies if someone is offended, having just got one,)

Almost none of my local photo friends even know what a rangefinder is, much less a Leica.
But mostly these folks are in their early to mid 20's, art students mostly at the university I work at. An average photo class has about 80% Pentax K1000s, maybe a Nikon F or Canon AE-1 here or there inherited from a relative or occasionally a modern AF model.
I bring in rangefinders, large format cameras, and all kinds of goodies so they learn a bit about different formats and types of cameras. I'm good friends with the photography instructor (who does know what a Leica is but would never buy one most likely, he shoots 4x5 mostly).
Outside of the photo class / professor I don't know anyone shooting film locally other than me. Of course if you count friends on the internet that's a totally different thing.

Down goes the fat one down goes the skinny one I'm going to eat some worms, down goes the little one down goes the big one, my how they squirm.
Don't know any M240 owners but a newspaper photographer in town has an M8 and M9 he uses. Joe

All my friends are dead.
(That's not as pathetic as it reads, but it's largely true).
But, to the question . . . I personally know no one (other than me !) who ever owned any model of a Leica, or desired to.
Same here. Most of my friends died before ever owning a Leica. I know, a very sad tale.

Not close friends but I know 2 or 3 that have them within driving distance of me. Maybe when it costs as much as my M9 did I will get one

Two of my friends have M240s. I don´t envy them and stick to my M9, the 240 is the model I´ll leave out, like the M8 before. None of us is rich, we are ordinary working people.

Does anyone remember the m240 was near impossible to come by till late 2013?

Two of my friends own cameras. One has a 15 year old Nikon digital camera, that still takes pictures and she uses it well. The other has a more modern DSLR. Both of them know what a Leica is, but neither is interested in owning one.

Going by how many Leica shops and cameras I see on a daily basis- I'd approximate that at any given stage in the day there are thousands of these things within a square mile of me, it's ridiculous.
As for friends, none of them are inclined to use a Leica. A couple of SLRs, A7s etc. Great cameras, all of them.
On another note:
I love my Leica camera and lenses, just not all the pomposity that surrounds them as something beyond a camera and lens. I don't advertise owning one typically.

... likes film again.
.... I "think" one friend owns a Monochrome but haven`t met him for a long time ... everybody else uses M8, M8.2, M9 or M9-P. No M240, though ...

I think the 240 was a leap too far for some Leica users, video, live view etc ... modern stuff!
