The biggest problem with bulk loading 40 frame rolls is that they wouldn't fit on the developing reel. It's no problem geting 37 frames on a 36 exposure roll but I cut the negs into strips of six. I usually end up picking a frame from one end or the other, occasionally in the middle of the roll, and discarding it.

If you cock the M shutter and then load the cartridge in the dark like a changing bag and pull out the leader until it goes into the spool like the diagram shows, then replace the bottom plate you can get 39 or 40 depending on the film brand. The last frame will have some overlapping and you will need to trip to rewind level to cock the last frame. I just had to try not that I am really that cheap!

I stop at 36, because I store my negatives in strips of 6. Scanning and storing individual negatives is a pain.
