Hey everyone - I think this is my first thread! At least the first one for while

Anyway, on this forum there's clearly interest in and about film cameras. But how often do you actually use them to take photos with?
Specifically, how much film do you shoot; and what's you favourite kind of subject matter? What's stopping you from shooting more film?

I've added a poll so everyone can clearly see some of the stats.

I'll start: I typically finish about a roll of 35mm every month (BW), then develop it at home. My subject matter is usually from small social gatherings, and some urban landscapes. I also dabble in some still lifes at home. I would shoot more on holidays, or if I were out of town for a bit.

(Apologies if this has been asked before; I couldn't find any other thread that had much data)

I usually shoot 2-3 rolls of 35mm and 1-2 rolls of 120 per month, but that also increases if I'm traveling (for example, I shot 5 rolls in 2 weeks on a recent trip to Maui). I mostly shoot B&W, but recently I've added a few rolls of Velvia 50, and will probably shoot a few rolls of Portra 160 and Ektar 100 over the summer.

I'm not currently self-developing, largely due to available space and the initial cost of getting the required materials. Again, something I hope to get going over the spring/summer.

I shoot many different subjects with film, but mostly landscape, street, documentary, portraits and random daily life stuff.

I take photos with film cameras weekly, if not daily.
Sorry, I'm not counting it in regular rolls. I guess, 4-10 per month.

I'm trying to slow down to 4X30 meters per year in b/w. I do dozen or more of C-41 at home as well. And some of 120, 4x5 b/w (mostly) film, but not as often as 135.

Family, street and anything worth of the film daily.

Hi quejai, congrats on your first thread 🙂 Always nice to see members getting more involved.

I probably shoot about a roll of 35mm a week and a roll of 120 a month.

A mix of family/portraits, landscape/nature and occasionally street. Mostly bw and occasionally Portra 160.

Cheers,

I shoot 4-5 rolls of film per week on average but can burst up into the 30+ if traveling. I shoot mostly 120 roll film so counts tend to be higher.

Between my Leica MA and my Rollei Automat I am over 15 rolls a piece just so far this month. Unless one of them breaks, or I do, they will each end the year with over 300 rolls apiece, likely even more than that. I slowed down on the ZI and the Leica Null and have only put about 10 rolls through both of them at this point in the year.

Last year was between 700 and 800 rolls of 35mm and 120. That of course does not count sheet film.

I seem to average 30 -35 rolls/month while at home and a bit more when travelling. This is 35mm and in 120 less, 5-10 rolls/month average . Used to be more, but I have slowed down a bit - age does that!

I only photograph on the weekends, holidays and on my way to and from the office every day. That made about 110 rolls of 35mm and 70 rolls of 120 film last year. All B/W obviously. I post two new photographs every day on my blog.

Wow! That's a lot! How do you manage that? I take pictures everyday, but because of work I just don't have enough time. Also: I'm curious how you keep up with the processing. At almost two rolls a day, you need to be on top of it to not have a huge backlog.

In 2014 I shot around 70 rolls of 35mm and like 15-20 rolls of 120. I mostly shoot when I'm away from home.

Over a year it will be about 4-5 rolls a month. More when it is fine weather and I'm on holiday, less during cold, wet, dark months. Almost all 120 slides but several formats from 6x4.5 to 6x17.

Don't shoot more because of time limitations. Shoot a bit of everything: family, landscape, city...

Tijmendal : i shoot during the week and more so on the weekends. i develop mainly on saturdays and also reuse the chemicals for sundays. a five reel dev tank helps but the biggest contributor to the workflow is the Pakon 135+ scanner, capable of scanning whole rolls in 5 mins.

I wish I shot more, winter is a dead season for me here, the rest of the time I have to fight against the familiarity of my home and keep looking for things to shoot

I'm not shooting so much lately, I'm more involved into editing and printing the already available material in order to finalize the ongoing projects.
