i have been looking 'round the net but can't find one, not even on ebay!

any suggestions as to where to look and current pricing would be appreciated.

Joe,

I had a look for you on Leicashop.com. No luck. They do have a Kobalux 28mm f3.5 kit, EUR360. There's a Pasoptik kit as well, same price. These lenses were sold under Kobalux, Avenon, Bower, Pasoptik brand names.

They come up for sale on eBay a few times per year - one needs to be a little patient. They seem to sell for between $500 and $800 depending on whether or not they come with a finder, box, caps, etc.

I looked at one a couple weeks ago at a shop in Tokyo. The cost for the lens and finder was about $400. It was an a average example, with clean glass but a little wear to the body.

I have both the Skopar and the Kobalux and prefer the Kobalux. Yes, it's bigger, but I prefer the ergonomics and much prefer the extra stop.

Cheers,

R.

the finder looks scary...way to big.

i have had the cv 21 and liked it but this time round i'd like a faster lens so unless a cv falls into my lap i'll keep checking ebay for the kobalux.
i'm broke so there is no great rush.
as it is i'll need to find a cheaper kobalux anyway...

Price depends on a condition and a version. There was 3 versions, If I'm not mistaken. 2 Chrome and one Black. Black is the last one and is supposed to be better. I had 2 in the past - a second Chrome one and a Black one. Black one focused closer, If I remeber correctly - 0.8 or 0.9m vs 1m on chrome ones.
Optically they were both good - I had very nice samples.
Chrome one runs cheaper - about $ 400-600 from what I have seen. Black is rarer and sells for more.

I've seen them on eBay, but not recently. As David said above, condition is the main criteria, but the ones I spotted were always around $700 because they were in the box (at least) and looked pretty good.

Patience and time, my dear friend, will bring your treasure home. :)

Unfortunately, the Kobalux is the only game in town for LTM cameras if you're looking for a 21mm f/2.8 lens. This and the fact that it's a great performer have driven the price way up.
I was looking for a Kobalux 21 forever and "settled" for the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8. for use on my M bodies. Here in the US the Kobalux prices almost match the Zeiss prices so I went for the ZM from the RFF classifieds. The ZM is fantastic. And it close focuses way closer than the M rangefinder can couple.
For LTM cameras though, it's either a long wait, high price or a Voigtlander 21.

Yikes, all the used M/LTM lenses have gone up. Is there gold in these lenses?
