I am getting ready to sell a few RF and other un-used Cameras and accessories.

I have a 1936/7 Contax III-- C-89086
5cm f/2 Sonnar CZJ-- r.2039037 (collapsible)

I am not sure on current values...I checked EBay...Not enough to go by. I knew of a website that had vintage price lists..but I can't remember it.

The III needs a shutter repair (a cog is broken), And, the camera will need a CLA (hopefully someone can do a DIY)....
The lens is good shape, No fungus, or oil on blades.

Before I offer it up, I would a few references to look up, to get a Ball Park idea of a fair price....I did Google "Contax III" and found no useful info for prices.

If you know of "reliable" value sources, please include the link in a reply...
Thanks...Peter

it all depends on condition (aside from the shutter repair issue) I am referring to the outward appearance of the camera.

within the last three months I have seen either the Contax II or the Contax III (with the II being the more desireable) going in the range from under $100 US to about $250. And these would be for non functioning shutters without lens

with respect to the lens again depends on condition. If in good condition my guess would be in the range of $100 to around $150

this is just my educated guess based on what I see on Ebay. Yes I was shopping and I did buy a II

Due to the shutter issue, $100 for the body, at best, and $125 for the lens unless it happens to be something unusual - an early rigid or a black & nickel lens. OTOH, I had a 1937 50/2 collapsible Sonnar given to me recently that was in nicer condition than one's I'd payed over $100 for.

I recently sold my II with shutter problems for $125.

My suggestion - sell the body, keep the lens & get a nice cheap Kiev 4a body to use it on. One from the mid/late-60s will still be in nice shape but not command as high a premium as one from the 50's.

The Body is good shape, RF is aliened OK, & the VF is fairly Clear too. No major dings or dents, Original leather is intact too.. The meter responds to light, but I don't have a way to convert the DIN numbering to a modern scale. I would rate the body a 8+ in cosmetics. Shows use, but not major visual issues.

The lens is good shape, and early f/2, not a T version, I don't think it is coated either.
