Having bought my used R-D1 in October 2009, I have felt need for adjusting the rangefinder after a month of use. Since then, I have been doing so monthly.

Wondering how often do other R-D1 users do it.

i have 2 bodies, one needed an adjustment right off and the other was fine out of the box.
neither has needed an adjustment since.

Mine has never been adjusted since I acquired mine a year ago. It has a slight vertical error, but that doesn't bother me yet.

I've adjusted the patch vertical alignment once. Other than that no complaints. I do however try to not knock it about, even if it is with me all the time.

From my R3A experience: next time you do it, put a tiny bit of nail polish on the screw heads.

Never.

And if I would have the feeling something would be wrong and has to be fixed, for sure I wouldn´t do it by myself. First class camera needs first class service, nothing else.

When I first got it, it was fine. After I had had it a while (and after reading a lot of posts) I convinced myself it needed adjustment. I did this every few months.

A little over a year ago, I had to send it in to Steve's Camera Service for a shutter repair. I had the RF adjusted at the same time. It came back perfect and has not needed to be touched since.

thanks to all for the responses! I haven't indeed used nail polisher to have the screw fixed, I didn't want to risk doing something I couldn't undo later.

Gonna give it a try tomorrow though.

Somes times to tune up a used camera, another time with my brand new M6 in 1985.

So it has been 25 years since I touched one.

well, rf aligned, made a dot of nail polisher to hold it. should solve the problem.

should have done it the 1st time, but as my 1st time opening something in a camera I was afraid of screwing it up. that feeling is gone :)

thanks for all the replies, the poll result made it pretty clear how it should be.

Well, there is always a first time:

Sorry, it is written in french, it's the short story of an M4's owner ( Myself, Leikon or Leikon68 ) bored to pay for pseudo CLA on his camera.

Now I have found and determinated the trouble, the camera works better, I use it, but there are some parts to replace. If someone got a good adress for a Leica's spare parts, I am very interrested.

:)
