Can't remember the last time I've seen a payphone. As I remember they were filthy, even sticky, most of the time anyway. My iPhone is convenient as both a phone and a camera. 8x10. probably not but for eBay and web use, absolutely.
I take pictures of the inside of my pocket all the time. I never take pictures with my cellphone intentionally. Also, I nominally use 15-20 minutes a month on my cellphone mainly for work.
It's funny how much things have changed in the three years since this poll was first posted. I hated using my iPhone 3G for pics... the Hipstamtic ones were occasionally fun but always looked just like everyone else's stuff since they're "processed" the same. My 4s on the other hand, its camera is fantastic, especially considering it's also my phone and portable internet device. So I actually will use it when I simply need a quick snapshot—either to email to someone or to simply get a pic of something that I didn't carry the proper film equipment for.
On errands around town, particularly at night, I seldom take a camera with me. When a photo op shows up, the phone cam can be handy. When I replaced my old phone, I chose a Samsung model because it had a 3.2MP camera function. I have been impressed with what a fixed-focus f/2.6 lens, equivalent to a 40mm full-frame lens, can capture.
My cellphone (3 3/4" x 2") is about the same size as my Canon S95 (3 7/8" x 2 1/4").
As I carry both, I've never used the camera in my cellphone. The S95 - at 10mp - is a true pocketable camera and thus can be carried daily.
I use the camera in my phone on a pretty regular basis. It lets me get out of the house quickly when I don't want to carry another camera. It is 8 MP and shoots well enough for web or printing at 8x10. I also enjoy having fun with all of the hipster and lomo effects. Its like having several different camera bodies available depending on the subject and my mood.
