a CLA be done on an M6TTL? I feel no real issues with the body, but I am sending it DAG for the VF upgrade. I'm not sure if I should send it back in a year or two or have it done now.

Well, I am sending my M2 for a CLA next week. The technician said that this would keep the camera trouble free for many years to come (he actually said "for thirty-fourty" years but I am sure he wanted to put emphasis only). So, to answer your question, I guess it really depends on whether your camera had ever had a CLA or if it had a recent one.

I hope that helps,

Best

Frequency of a CLA will depend on amount of use (or disuse) and exposure to dust, heat, moisture, type of handling, etc. In general, if it ain't broke.... I have an M6 classic from 1995 that has never had a CLA, and it is operating in tip-top shape as far as I can tell.

On the other hand, since it is already going in for the viewfinder update, I'd consider at least a partial CLA, which DAG offers. Ask him about the finer details of the 3/4 CLA.

Btw, what does a viewfinder upgrade cost these days?

Don quoted $190.00. I was at Samy's last week and played with an MP .085. I was sufficently impressed to want the upgrade. I like shooting in low light so the brighter VF should assist my 45 yr old eyes.

I don't think the M6 has ever been CLA'd. The dealer also sold me a lens which turned out pretty sticky so that needs adjustment also. It works, but slows down the focusing at times when it very inconvenient.

he's pretty sure of himself. Actually it does help. I was Europe last month and the camera quite a workout. I probably will have a partial CLA done.

Good call on the viewfinder upgrade. I'm having my M6 upgraded when it goes in for its CLA, though I don't know when that will be.

I'd just ask Don to check it out and see if it needs a CLA.. if it doesn't, he'll let you know.. I had my CL in for an RF alignment and meter adjustment for alkaline batteries, and he didn't see any need to do a full CLA on it

good idea Joe,

The full CLA is $290 w/ a partial at $190.00. I may settle for the VF work and wait until CLA is really needed. Now let's see, what could I use $290.00 for? CV lens? down on a Zeiss?? 1/4 down on more Leica glass.......arrghhh

I have to agree. Can't speak for any of the other repair places but my experiences with Don is that he won't try to sell you a bill of goods ever.
